Question: Do you have a "best friend"?
My Answer: Ignoring the obvious nature that one person is probably always the "best" friend on some scale or another, and going with the old-school meaning, I'd have to say that I don't. Instead, I employ a distributed best friend, sharing different parts of my life with Kati, or Carey, or Crystal, or Brad, or Andy, or Eric, or whomever. As an adult, it's just not sane to monopolize someone's life like you could "back in the day" of "best friends." Besides, work gets in the way too often anyway.

I do. But, they're not people I see particularly frequently. Hell, none of them are even in the same state as me. Of course, there's a sliding scale. I definitely don't have one best friend, but I could probably narrow it down to three.
Now, for me, the term has quite an extreme meaning. These aren't just people I'd give my life for, these are people for whom, were they to mention that they have the desire to see the effects of peeling someone's fingernails off, I would volunteer to be the subject.
