My in-laws likely wouldn't have batted an eye. At the time of our marriage (1992), my father-in-law was a councilman in their fair city, and a great many people of a political nature had to be invited to the wedding. Looking back on it, the group dynamics that night at the reception were pretty amusing. Most of those taking advantage of the open bar were the politicos. At least they got us nice gifts. 😉
