QotD: 100,000,000 Again
Posted July 11th, 2004 @ 10:02pm by Erik J. Barzeski
Question: How far off were you?
My Answer: Apple sold its 100,000,000th iTune to Kevin Britten of Hays, Kansas at approximately 1:30am EST on July 12th, making Paul Mayne the winner (I believe). I was personally off by about four days. At 10:15 when Carey called me tonight, the counter read 99,854,889. Aaron Linville finished in second, and I won't disqualify Paul for guessing twice: I'm just counting his first and only guess within the allowable dates.
You are encouraged to answer the Question of the Day for yourself in the comments or on your blog.

I'm not one to count my chickens before they hatch.
It's 10:44 Central here and Apple's page says:
99,914,861
If it's closest without going over, I'm still in it, otherwise Etan's second guess is closest.
ATAT gave a good guess, although I wonder about my math skills. According to the time stamp on the comment, 10 days ahead would've been July 13th, so my inability to add apparently gave me a slight advantage. Just like on my taxes!

Well, the counter on the Apple.com homepage just rolled over 100 million.

It just ended at about July 12 1:28 EST so I think I guessed closest at July 12 at 10:45 EST....

It ended up crossing 100 million at about 10:20 PM pacific time. The store was nuts then at 10:15 it was showing 99,982,000 at 10:25 it updated to 100,014,607. I tried buying a couple albums I had in my cart. Couldn't get a response from the store. It was completely swamped. Now at 10:33 it's showing 100,033,542. Lot of people wanted that prize. =)
