QotD: Nintendo DS

Question: Do you want a Nintendo DS?

My Answer: Ars gave it a 9, and I think that eventually I might like to pick up a Nintendo DS, but frankly $150 is far better spent elsewhere. I still enjoy console gaming (though I haven't done that in over a month). Hmmm… Perhaps I'm finally at the stage when video games simply don't matter. Anyone want to buy a Nintendo GameBoy SP? 😛

  1. Looks like a nice little gadget. The screenshots look very promising for a gameboy-like device. I haven't played games for years, lately I have been looking at various stationary consoles but I couldn't decide which one I'd buy. Probably it depends on the games I want, but I know next to nothing about the market. Regarding that Nintendo DS: 150 USD looks quite steep, especially if you consider that the Game Cube is available at a street price of 99 EUR over here and I am not looking for a mobile device.

  2. Haven't had a chance to blog about it yet (partially because I've been playing Mario DS :), but I picked one up last Sunday. It's fantastic.

  3. The DS looks five kinds of awesome, and I'd really want one eventually, but my GBA SP has barely seen any action at all lately. I'll wait for a price drop.

  4. I think it's a good combination of hardware features. I expect it'll have some nifty hacks in a few months, especially with the wireless capability, since it's approaching PDA like capability. I'll probably pick a DS up Q1 or early Q2 of 2005 after it stops being a "waiting list" item and when they have a few more titles available. The next few months will probably be consumed with mastering the recent Mario Tennis release for GameCube. It looks like it could be a fun multi-player game to play with my wife and kids. Last winter's game to fight cabin fever was MarioKart. We're hoping the new tennis game can fill that role this winter.

  7. Question: I asked the question about the Nintendo DS, and now I'm asking it about the Sony PSP: do you want one? My Answer: No. The ability to play movies and, occasionally, a decent looking game is attractive. The battery...
