QotD: Celebrating Christmas

Question: Do you celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

My Answer: Or perhaps you don't celebrate it. My family has traditionally done it "on the day," but we also usually travelled and had Christmas two days before, and then two days afterwards as well (paternal grandparents -2, maternal grandmother, then our house +2).

You are encouraged to answer the Question of the Day for yourself in the comments or on your blog.

  1. on Christmas. Usually, growing up, we had a nice family evening at home on Christmas Eve, Christmas morning exchanged presents, and then had the "big meal" (with family friends coming over) Christmas afternoon/evening).

Since I've been married, we've always been travelling, which sucks. So this year, with an almost 2 year old and another on the way, we have put our foot down and aren't going anywhere from now on. Taking the week between Xmas and New Years off helps, and makes for a nice family tradition to start (plus we get to see all the bowls...)

  2. In Austria, Christmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve only. The two following days are spent either visiting your family or celebrating your hangover 😉

  3. Canadian living in Tokyo... We opened presents on Christmas Eve and did a big dinner on the 25th. Christmas & Boxing Day are work days here (though this year they fell on Sat/Sun) so celebrating on the day itself would mean getting up at 6am to open presents like when I was little. I prefer opening presents on the 24th around midnight anyway though. 🙂

  4. My family always attended church and opened gifts the night of Christmas Eve, but now I also celebrate on Christmas day with my oldest brother and his family. So, I guess I celebrate on both days.
