QotD: Persuasion

Question: Is persuasion dead?
My Answer: Based on a recent NYT column, this question is. Talking like Yoda, I am. Anyway, my answer is that on a large scale, I think that persuasion is largely dead. Then again, I'm not ever sure it was ever alive. Politics doesn't persuade anyone anymore, and Steve Jobs has an uphill battle convincing the hard-core Mac crowd that the PowerPC is bad and that the x86 is good.
But small scale? It's still out there. Persuasive people get promoted, get jobs, and get what they want out of life. Persuasive people get the bed sheets they want when their wife wants different ones (though compromise plays a big part here as well). Persuasive people are leaders, not followers.
