QotD: Mileage

Question: How many miles do you drive in a year?

My Answer: About 12,000. In Florida, the only trips I took over four miles, on average, were fishing trips. Here in PA, my country club is less than 25 miles away, and I don't leave the house for work. I've put just over 3,000 miles on the Touareg (purchased early August), and that rate will drop sharply as winter hits and I stop making three to four trips per week to play golf.

  1. I should add that I've just started keeping track of my mileage as far as miles per gallon. Today's entry reads: 10/20/05, 19.89 gallons, $2.59/gallon, 386.9 miles from last fillup, 19.45198592 miles/gallon. Many short trips, but mostly out to Lake View. Just from memory, the Touareg has averaged about 19.5 to 20.5 MPG previously. It'll be interesting to chart it, though.

  2. You're a geek! I notice that I'm buying gas less often so that's good enough for me 🙂

  3. About 2000. My commute to work is walking from my bedroom to my office in the other side of my home.

  4. I drive about 20k miles a year. My current car has been driven an average of about 15,000 miles a year. My wife's car and mine together have been driven about 40,000 miles a year. My previous car was driven an average of approximately 17,500 miles per year, but that does not count my motorcycle or my Jeep Wrangler. So, 20k is probably about right for me.
