QotD: Carpet Installers
Posted January 12th, 2006 @ 01:48pm by Erik J. Barzeski
Question: How much do you think a carpet installer makes per hour?
My Answer: I would have thought $50/hour, tops. I was wrong.

Is that how much they make, or how much their parent company charges to do the job?

A lot of them are independent contractors. They make around $125-$133/hour. Even if the company is taking a cut, they're looking at at least $50/hour after taxes.

So they are charging you almost $400 per hour for installation? That does seem a little bit excessive. But is the $125 per hour is for the entire install team, that doesn't sound too bad.

No. About $125-$133.
