Wii Launch Lineup

According to this link, there will be 27 Wii launch titles. I only care about a few of them: Rayman Raving Rabbids, Madden NFL 07, and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. And I'm not even sure I care much about the last one.

Granted, I'm not sure what some of the games are. I know "Red Steel" is big, but I haven't read up on it. "Wii Sports" sounds like a demo title, not an actual game. GT Pro Series may be fun, but at launch, I'm going to look for titles that use the revolutionary control scheme, not ones that are best played with a wheel (as I imagine anything named "GT" would be).

  1. You don't care about Zelda?! You're being sarcastic right?

  2. Of course Zelda will be the most likely of these to take advantage of the Wiimote.

I hope development for the Wii is better than it was for the Game Cube, but I don't see too much hope for groundbreaking and imaginative games given todays development playing it safe due to the hollywood sized production budgets.

What I really think would make the Wii shine, beyond some backwards compatibility with earlier games, is giving the players Construction Kits, to build their own levels.

  3. I'm looking forward to: Zelda, Madden (especially after your one post on it: sounds like it won't suck!), Metroid 3 (still haven't beaten 1 or 2, and my Gamecube memory card just died), and Super Monkey Ball.

Wii Sports would be awesome, but then again, I'd love to see an entire golf, entire tennis, entire whatever game. When they're lumped into one title, they tend to not play as well.

  4. I don't care much about Zelda because, unlike when I was 12, I don't have four hours at a time to devote to a game. I like sports games because I can play a game in 20 hours, save my progress, and not need to spend the first 15 minutes of my next 20-minute play session trying to remember what the heck I was doing.

Zelda will also not be the game that gets my wife into playing video games, if that ever occurs. Some other Wii games have that chance.

Incidentally, where the heck is Tiger Woods? I want to be able to play Tiger Woods on the Wii. It better be available, even if I have to wait a few months. I don't believe I'll be buying a PS3 or an XBox 360.

  5. Wii Sports is for the non-gamer. It has very simplistic versions of sports (like tennis) that can be quickly and easily played by anyone.
