1. I was just about to post a comment in your previous iPhone thread pointing to this news. I'm envious, it's going to take a while to come to Canada and even then it's going to be exclusive to Rogers Wireless, who *isn't* my current cellphone provider 🙄

  2. [...] considering picking up an iPhone well in advance of any official AT&T takeover of Cellular One. The reason? Cyndicate may have some features coming that need the testing [...]

  3. I believe cellular one aka dobson is making a big mistake. At&t is just using cellular to obtain there towers, because cellular one has better service, I have talk to some at&t customer's that's not very happy with at&t, being over charged. At&t does not offer unlimited call plan and cellular one does, now if at&t will leave it that away this will be fine, but if they stop it, then I will go with some other provider, there are other cell phone company's a lot cheaper than at&t, with better plans, all At&t is doing is trying to get control and when they do well, then they can do to the costumer what the want to do. That i pod is not worth the money, so choose wisely.

  4. Great news !

    WHEN ???

  5. [...] haven't heard anything more on the AT&T buyout of Cellular One. Back in June, it was said the buyout would be completed around December or [...]

  6. At & T has been ripping people off since the beginning of time...they are an awful company to deal with..I avoid them at all cost....I have been a cell one customer for many years and I think that AT &T will lose a lot of the cell one customers because At &T will probably replace the current cell one plans with extremely expensive ones..
I am sorry that Dobson (cell one) sold out....

  7. I spoke to a call center representative at cellular one the other day. She said that the "take over" happens January 1, 2008. She said she didn't know if it would affect my current plan with cellular one.

I keep reading claims that you can unlock the iphone. Of course, this may void the warantee and what not.

If it's true that you can unlock the iphone, I'm assuming it could be used in Canada on Rogers Wireless GSM network.

  8.
I keep reading claims that you can unlock the iphone. Of course, this may void the warantee and what not.
You can unlock it via modifying the hardware (voids warranty) or via software (supposedly - confirmed but not yet released), which shouldn't do anything… but which may be rendered void by a future firmware upgrade.

  9. Cell one changed all the plans too when they switched from the dobson name. I haven't seen a major difference in plans between cell one & att. The do offer the ability to keep your minutes, cell one does not, so the unlimited worries are compensated.

  10. Cellular One isn't being bought by AT&T, Cell One is buying AT&T.
The effect will not happen January 1, 2008. They are hoping to have the negotionations done by then, but as it looks so far, it's not to happen.

  11. Great news!!!!!!!! My friend went to the cellular one store to get a phone and they told her to wait 2 to 3 weeks because they are getting all of the at&t phones and plans! So looks like they are ahead of schedule with the buy-out! So i could have a new iPhone in a few weeks!!!!!

  12.
Cellular One isn't being bought by AT&T, Cell One is buying AT&T.
That's by far the dumbest thing I've heard so far today. You've got it backwards. Teeny tiny companies don't buy out incredibly huge ones.
So looks like they are ahead of schedule with the buy-out!
It's my understanding that the holdup is more about the FCC or something than any company shuffling of money, etc.

  13. I have no clue who is taking over who and I honestly do not care as long as my current plan is honored, as a cellularone representative had assured me. But then again it is not in writing so......And of coarse, as I have learned in the past, Promises are easy to give until they are asked for in writing....
I like my cellone, I had done a lot of research prior to opening my cell account and liked that one the best.....if the two are merging and offering the combination of plans that will be great! But if they plan on increasing the $$$$ for them I will probably look elsewhere. Until I can actually find some kind of info to research other than concerned customer comments, I will enjoy my cellone phone as it is currently and worry about the rest if things begin to go south.

  14. I am so MAD! I love Cellular One! They plans are great, their reception is great, and their customer service is acceptable. I am so disappointed. AT&T better uphold my unlimited calling plan or they will lose me as a customer.

No reason to be mad. I don't think they can change your plan and, if you're willing to stay "month to month" when your contract is up, and pay full price for phones, I don't think they can do much.

  16. Some of you may not even be going to AT&T. They were ordered to split some of the regions because of the monopoly regs. You might and up with verizon or someone else.

Whaaaaaaat? That doesn't even make sense.

  18. ive been a cell one customer for 10 yrs i will go else where if they change one thing on my plan to lessen what i got and will tell everyone not to use them !! if you try to go to cellone web site it comes up at&t so they must be in control its only a matter of time and this will all stop or a lot will leave hell with the iphone hell with at&t i want my cellone back full force they dont offer what they had now that at&t is in control . if you want a cool phone put it in the fridge(ha ha) my brother has a iphone but uses it mainly to check out e mails and web not for talking on so its good for him but not me as a cell one customer if they offerd it at cell one i would get one asap nice phone bad provider(at&t that is )

  19. they are AT&T goto celloneusa.com see for your self iwant to see cellone offers/plans any one now how without AT&T plans being offerd ?

  20. does the buyout include all of cell one? When i go to the cell one website it says it doesnt have service in my area and we have a cell one store in my homeown.

i agree with erik j. that is the stupidest thing ive ever heard they just tell you guys that so you dont tell a bunch of people about the secrets of the merger. dumbass 🙄

that is ridiculos. att and cellone are gsm networks and verizon is a cdma network it wont work!!!!!!!! dumbass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Thank you, tj, for the reply to mine from ages ago. My phrasing was dealt with long ago. You sadly missed the whole point. Which was not everyone will be a part of AT&T when this is done. Some of the markets will be sold to other cellular companies because there is a lack of competition. I just used verizon as an example simply because that is what my ignorant sales person said and if you look I did say "or someone else." I do appreciate your intelligent response to my comment made in haste months ago. Please don't hesitate to belittle others in the future with your cutting remarks.

  24. i really want a blackberry and i have Cellular one and i wanted to know if anyone has heard if AT & T is going to take over and if they do will i FINALLY get a backberry?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  25. Where do you live that Cellular One still exists? My Cellular One (originally trademarked through Dobson Cellular) was taken over by AT&T over a year ago. I now pay AT&T every month. It's basically the same service, same plan, etc. I just pay them. I'm assuming if you have Cellular One it is a trademark under a different company than Dobson Cellular? Curious to know your answer.

    1. I live in Centrel IL.

  26. we have been running without a contract(we were long time cell one customers) I believe there are alot of former cell one customers doing this through AT&T. I have heard about the middle of oct 09 we will no longer be able to get reception from AT&T. Does anyone know if they can in fact do this? ❓
