The Canon 5D Mark II (Rumors)
Posted March 12th, 2008 @ 11:54pm by Erik J. Barzeski
Rumors have been floating around for over a year re: the Canon 5D Mark II (see also: Canon 3D, 6D, and 7D). Earlier today, MacNN's generic electronics site and Gizmodo both published specs of the "forthcoming" Canon 5D Mark II. The source? Some bozo without a source or a real name on DP Review's forums.
C'mon. Some bozo on a forum isn't news.
Gizmodo pulled the supposed specs, which are:
- Will be announced April 22 and will ship on June 2.
 - 15.3 MP, full-frame CMOS sensor with "vastly improved light-gathering capacity per pixel, improved micro lenses, miniaturized micro circuitry, enhanced signal/noise ratio"
 - Weather sealing same as 1Ds Mark III
 - Dual Digic III with all-new "CXR" NR system available as a Custom Function with four levels of customizable parameters
 - 14 bit A/D conversion
 - ISO 12800 (Custom Function up to 25600)
 - 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement
 - All-new 29-point TTL CMOS sensor with 12 cross-type for f/2.8 or faster lens
 - Micro lens fine adjustment for up to 14 lenses
 - 300,000 exposure shutter durability
 - 6/3 fps for up to 68 frames
 - 3" LCD with 922,000 pixels.
 - Dust removal/cleaning system
 - Live View (improved from 450D; latest generation)
 - $3499 MSRP

Uhmmm, yeah. If all that's true, I might work really hard to find the cash to buy one. I'd then sell my current 5D and replace it with a 40D or something. Or perhaps a new lens. But c'mon, it's some random guy on a forum, and it's not even the famous tsiphoto.

Rumors are generally worthless in the camera trade.
If I had a dollar for every rumor on DP review for Nikon DSLRs, I'd buy me and YOU a Nikon D3 with plenty o' lenses.
Not that I would know... 😉

So why would you bother to write all of this - perpetuating the same-ol rumors? We've seen all of this elsewhere.

Obviously you were searching for it, so I don't know how much you can really condemn me.
Besides, it's still interesting to see what people speculate will be coming.
