Spelling Hint to People on Forums

"rediculous" is not a word. Not in the English language, anyway.
What I wouldn't give to have every browser put red dotted lines under mis-spelled words like Safari does, along with people who care enough to pay attention to them.

Yeah, I guess you could do that in Javascript, underline every word on the page that doesn't belong to the dictionary !

Yeah, things like that really drive me nuts.
Ones I see frequently:
- "than" instead of "then" (and vice versa)
- "it's" instead of "its"
- "'s" used to pluralize
Makes me wonder what our nation's public schools are teaching nowadays.

Maybe it's because most of the people on the internet aren't american, English or even from an English-Speaking country !
Have you ever thought of that ?
I'm french, for example... And still, 80% of the sites I visit are written in English.

Moitah, I see these spelling and grammatical mistakes from people I know to be English-speaking Americans. We have a system-wide failure in our educational system here, but we as a country refuse to admit it.
I can excuse mistakes made by non-native English speakers, just as I hope that native German- and Spanish-speaking people will excuse the mistakes I undoubtedly make in their languages.

You should be happy that Firefox 3 is now out. It has spell check built-in like Safari.

Not to overgeneralize, but more than a few times I've observed how native English-speaking/writing American leave an impression of being careless/sloppy while the non-natives tend to be more conscientious/accurate.
Writers who can't make an effort don't deserve my time and effort as a reader. If I'm not ignoring them, sometimes it's the sloppiest writers (from anywhere) making the most thoughtless "contributions" to discussions. There's probably a connection.
