Roomba For my Lawn
Posted July 10th, 2008 @ 11:52am by Erik J. Barzeski
This is the first year I've really fertilized my lawn, and man am I paying for it! I've already mowed more this year than all of last year. I'm firing up the lawn mower once every 2-3 days. Ouch.
I want a Roomba for my lawn. Slap an anti-theft thing on it, modify an invisible dog fence, and voilà! No more trudging around the yard in 80° weather every other day.
Heck, I could even do without the anti-theft device. I'd volunteer to watch the thing if I could program in a pattern or something so it completed the job in 30 minutes. No need for bags - I'd use the thing every two days like I do now and just leave the clippings ("recycled" is what the lawn mower people call it - really it's just thatch).

Like the auto mower or the LawnBott? Safety-wise, all similar contraptions were slammed by Consumer Reports.

Safety? Oh come on!!! What could possibly be unsafe about an automatic roving machete machine? *Perfectly* safe. Even a child could use it!

You need to get an Ecolawn: http://www.wildflowerfarm.com/index.php?p=catalog&parent=4&pg=1
Save mowing and help the environment at the same time.

Sean, I thought perhaps that was a link to those artificial lawns. I'd like to get one of those. That'd be even better, but I think they're super expensive.

According to the report recently on NPR, the payback period (in California) on the fake lawns was 3 years (counting up fertilizer, seed, water, lawn service, mowing, etc.). Of course, the initial expenditure of $30K tends to put more than a few people off.

Someone in our neighborhood has Robomow (I think it's that brand, at least). I laugh every time I drive by and it's mowing their yard with not a human in sight. Welcome to the future. First the iPhone, now this.

Husquavarna also makes the AutoMower. No dealers near me but it looks like they do have some in PA.

The robomow is awesome. I bought one a few months ago and have written a review about it at robomowreview.com.

One fact that many people do not know is that when you cut your lawn extremely short you are forcing the grass to grow faster. The green grass blades are the source of the food the grass takes in and stores from the sun. Pro lawn care specialists know that if you leave the grass longer it will grow more slowly.
