QotD: Father’s Day Gift

Question: What's the best Father's Day present you've given or received?

My Answer: My dad is unusually difficult to buy for because, like myself, if he wants something he gets it for himself. We have been able to surprise him with a big steak dinner, or ammunition, or something like that, but those times are outnumbered by the time he insists that he has everything, and that he'd be happy if we just had whatever meal struck his fancy at the moment for dinner.

You are encouraged to answer the Question of the Day for yourself in the comments or on your blog.

  1. Canon S200 Digital Camera. Uses it almost every day on the job.

  2. It's damn well near impossible to buy my father something for father's day because he already has everything he needs, or wants. Usually, I keep it simple and buy hinm a DVD of an older film that I know he likes.

As for me, I guess I could start receiving gifts even though the child (sex still unknown) still hasn't been born yet. However, once the child is old enough, I expect Star Wars toys. 😛

  3. When it comes to gifts usually I just help fund the purchase and rely on my sisters/mom to do the thinking and buying. There has been times that I am the only one who doesn't know what the person is getting. Thankfully my dad does usually wait for some sort of gift time, if it is close, to get what he wants. Its pretty easy to get him something he wants. My mom and I are the only two in the family that "If we want it, we go out and get it."

  4. I think the best thing I ever got my Dad was a CD collection of Tom Lehrer tunes. I remember listening to "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" and "The Elements Song" among others with him on his old slate 78's (very fragile!!!) when I was a kid. Much of the humor went over my head at the time, but he would laugh almost to the point of tears sometimes.

  5. One time, probably when I was in high school and destitute, I wrote my dad a poem for Fathers' Day. He cried and I got a big hug. It's hanging on the wall in his bedroom. I get teary-eyed when I see it there. And right now, too, in fact ...

  6. I never know what to buy for anyone. Period. Always at a lose. Luckily, my dad and I have the same understanding, we don't buy for each other on special events. Works out amazingly well.

  7. I never used to know what to get for my father on any occasion (father's day, birthday, christmas), but in the end I am finding out he, and other men in our family, really enjoy anything electronic. So now we have even started our own business, almost a year and going strong, and I try to help other people looking to get their father things for Father's Day and such. We provide things like GPS, headphones, electric screwdrivers, drill sets, camcorders....all sorts of things (all at great prices might I add), for more information feel free to e-mail me at thekennedys@pldi.net
