Kindle Updated to 2.3

The Kindle received a Thanksgiving update today, as noted by Dan Benjamin. Though the software update only pushed one decimal place to version 2.3, the updates include: Built-in PDF reader: Your Kindle can now display PDF documents without losing the formatting of the original file. Send PDF documents directly to your Kindle (via your @Kindle […]

iPhone 3G Clock Time Late?

iCal (or, technically, BusyCal) Alarms in our house are a somewhat comedic event. If Carey and I are both on our portables ((See how I refrained from calling them "laptops"?)), three computers sound off at the same time along with her iPhone (an original, and thus, an EDGE phone). A symphony of beeps and dings […]

As my tweet says: I ordered Stack and Tilt swing from Amazon on Kindle. They instead sent me some book about Seymour Butts. Indeed: YouTube link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSj4Al7GlGE. Incidentally I spent ten minutes trying to find the best way to contact support at Amazon. To say they've made it difficult is quite the understatement. I […]

Kindle Illustrations Precursor

A few days ago I mentioned a book that was more expensive on Kindle than in hardcover. They've since updated that pricing, but that's not the point. The point is that the book - which I've had for awhile now thanks to Barnes and Noble's disregard for what may or may not even be an […]

My AppleTV To-Do Item

I've heard good things about AppleTV 3.0 software. Something I need to do: check to see if an AppleTV can share its Internet connection with, say, a DirecTV receiver (via ethernet). If so, I'll strongly consider getting one for the bedroom. The living room TV has the Xbox 360 (with Rivet), so I don't need […]

My DirecTV DVR Wishes

With two DirecTV DVRs, each having equalled and even surpassed the TiVo(s) they replaced, things have been going along swimmingly. We're recording everything we want, including Penguins hockey games, and not missing anything. But, as with all things tech, I'm not satisfied. There are two features I'd love to see implemented. The first is sharing […]

Double-Click on iPhone

{democracy:61} For a little over a year now it's gone to my Phone Favorites, but I'm trying out the "Camera" setting for awhile since every time I want to use the camera it feels like the moment has passed by the time I finally get it launched.

Took only 30 minutes. This one, unlike the first-gen one in my VW Touareg, shows the album and artist name. Or the title. But never all three together, bizarrely. But hey, at least it can change shuffle settings, navigate playlists, artists, and albums, and a few other things. Still, a step up. And I'll read […]

Does anyone else out there wish they could delete some of Apple's built-in applications from their iPhones? Sure, you can move them aside, but what if you never ever want to see them, and don't want them cluttering up your screens (or created unnecessary screens)? For example, I can't remember the last time I launched […]

Craigslist Erie

Erie is now caught up to, what, 2001? We have Craigslist! Wow, 3G and Craigslist in one week. WTF is going on?!?!

3G Comes to Erie

Some time early yesterday evening I awoke my iPhone and, before it could latch on to my wireless network, I saw "3G" instead of "E" in the title bar. I turned off WiFi and, lo and behold, the "3G" remained. I loaded up a web page in Mobile Safari and, yep, it had to be […]

iPhone AppleCare

I'm thinking of submitting my iPhone 3G for AppleCare work. The back case is cracked, and there are three little dots on the screen which almost look like little holes on the inside of the glass. The cracking is the big thing: it's cracked near the bottom port and twice near the ringer switch. Anyone […]

Baldwin: This society is very wired together, and it's the most neurotic a society has ever been. Twitter, all this stuff, I don't view as anything good. Everyone is so hyperaware of what everybody else is doing. Everybody has been convinced their opinion should count. We all need to be spouting opinions. I'm now giving […]

80 Text Messages per Day!

Holy crap! I haven't broken the 200/month barrier yet on my iPhone. American teenagers sent and received an average of 2,272 text messages per month in the fourth quarter of 2008, according to the Nielsen Company -- almost 80 messages a day, more than double the average of a year earlier.
