I spilled some Reese's Pieces on my desk today and, remembering what I'd read about f-stops and depth of field, I set about trying different shots with different shutter speeds. I set my Rebel XT to "Tv" mode, or "shutter priority" mode, put the camera on a tripod, and took different pictures. I could have […]

I'm slowly learning more and more about my new digital SLR. One of the things I'd like to try is to put together a list of "assignments" that I could do (and perhaps share with folks here on the blog). By "assignment" I mean something like: "night shot at ISO 1600" and the corrolary, "night […]

I've never met a more intelligent (or mischievous) two year old. The kid's a handful. She's going to make some guy very, very scared someday. 😀

Everyone who has commented on here about my new digital camera (the Digital Rebel XT) in previous posts has been quite helpful, so I'm going to ask another question: what's a good tripod? I've got a cheapie Kodak one now. It's got twisty legs and it's heavier than it should be. So, what I'm looking […]

I'm interested in buying this short course, an e-book, except it comes on CD-ROM? How about letting me download the darn thing? $19.95 could probably be dropped to $14.95 if they didn't have to mail me a CD, and I'd get the satisfaction of being able to read right away. And how about a few […]

One of the first pictures I took with my camera today. The lot of them were very washed out, very "midtoney" or low in contrast. I bumped the contrast on this one up a bit, made it a tad darker, and slid around some of the colors. It's nothing spectactular, that's for sure.

Today I ordered my Canon Digital Rebel XT from B&H. I first put a call in to "my local shop," but the guy would not even begin to guess at when he might see his first shipment. I realize that B&H is big, gets orders from the manufacturers quickly, but I wanted to give "the […]

I stopped in at my local camera store to price out a new Digital Rebel XT. Here's what I've got so far (prices from B&H - I intend to get the local store to match or better the prices):

Some quick tips on photographing sunsets with a digital camera. Turn off the white balance feature. Let the sun get low to avoid damaging the CCD. Turn off auto-focus; switch to landscape mode. Turn around and look at the other images a sunset can produce. Shoot even after the sun's gone down. Use a tripod. […]

This 160-yard par 3 plays downhill and usually with a left-to-right wind. I took the ball at the right edge of the left bunker with a 7-iron and let the wind push it back. It hit long, but sucked back down the ridge to about 15 feet. I two-putted for an easy par.

My dad still uses a $300 camera I gave him and my mother a few years ago, but it takes decent shots. Snow proves difficult (as it does, from what little I understand, for all cameras). I've been looking around for an online digital photography class (one worth taking, and thus, one that probably costs […]

The Bond Aston Martin Vanquish, only $255,000. Really quite inexpensive if you ask me.

Two golf balls, both hit with a 3W from the same tee. One was a low cut, the other a high draw. This is where they finished up, 240 yards from the tee and 165 from the middle of the green, on the 10th hole at Lake View Country Club. Yes sir, I played golf […]

So the first real snow has come: Erie is expected to get about 12" of wet snow tonight. Great for snowmen, bad for driving. My dad and I took my car in to have a flat fixed and get the oil changed. I'm relieved that I made a smart "all-weather" decision in Florida seven or […]
