So says LifeHacker. That's my typical usage pattern, and based on Apple's advice, I've been running batteries in my MacBook Air and iPhone to 0% once a month before recharging. But, I did pick up one of the Belkin Conserve outlets, because I always plug my phone in at night when I sleep, so I'll […]

Yes, yes I am enjoying my TikTok + iPod Nano. From Instagram Dave likes it too, apparently, since upon seeing it and playing with it for about 12 seconds he's decided he needs one as well. 🙂 The nano works great on runs, though I'll know more tomorrow when I run 24:00.

You'l have to read the article at Forbes.com, but the gist is "yeah, it is… eventually." I personally view Best Buy as a sort of warehouse. Most of the time I'm better off buying something from Amazon, but if it's cheaper or the same price, I'll get it from Best Buy just so I don't […]

The Verge, which many feel is the best tech site going these days, publishes an awesome article on Kickstarter. I've heard of every project mentioned except the two biking ones. If the iPod Nano had a way of always showing the clock (not requiring a touch), I'd have bought an iPod Nano and a TikTok […]

Riddle me this: why doesn't Netflix allow me to embed one of their streaming movies on a web page? For example, suppose I like the movie Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead ((I do, by the way, very very much.)). Why can't I embed the movie on a page, recommend it to people, and let people […]

I agree completely with what @gruber wrote: the new Twitter app (and to a lesser extent, the new Twitter website) flat out stinks. I guess Tweetbot is the way I'll go for now.

Sprint has been running commercials lately about their unlimited data plans for the iPhone. The tag line has been something about "bet you don't realize how much data you actually use." Guess what? I bet most people don't realize how little data they use. Since I reset my phone on October 14, I've sent 76.4 […]

So the word lately among the long-time Mac folk is that the Steve Jobs biography - a book I'll get to in a few weeks if I'm lucky - isn't great. It's simply not written for me, it's intended for others, I'm hearing. If you've read it, what do you think? Is this assessment accurate? […]

The update took about three minutes on my phone. I still downloaded the full 700 MB update within iTunes. I'm looking forward to some better battery life.

I'm a bit surprised by Apple at this. It's a "problem" on every (three) iPhone 4S I've tried. I can try it on a friend's iPhone 4, as well, but I suspect I'll see the same thing there. The "problem" is this: Grab your iPhone 4S near the home button (bottom). Tap the back of […]

After reading this article, I made a few changes. The first few days my battery life was really bad. I first did a deep drain. The phone sat at 1% of moderate usage for 45 minutes, despite going from 3 to 1 in about ten minutes. That seemed to help. Then I did some things […]

Well worth the 80 minutes. Or, really, 60 minutes since you can turn it off when you hear the word "Coldplay." http://www.apple.com/celebrating-steve/ I loved Jonathan Ive's speech.

In most people's vocabularies, design means veneer. It's interior decorating. It's the fabric of the curtains and the sofa. But to me, nothing could be further from the meaning of design. Design is the fundamental soul of a man-made creation that ends up expressing itself in successive outer layers of the product or service. Steve […]

Carey and I were grandfathered in to AT&T's unlimited data plan. At $30 a month, it was a steal, particularly since we'd "only" get 2 GB of data if we downgraded to the $25/month plan. And yet, I've done just that, saving us all of $10/month. Why? The answer is in the extended entry:
