Casey Martin, 10 Years Out

FWIW, though I understood the PGA Tour's position, the ADA requires individual assessments and there's no way Casey Martin would have been deemed to have an "advantage" by using a cart.

Trimming UI Further Developed

New UI

As a quick follow-up to yesterday's post, current plans are:

"Plan B" (Highly likely this is actually Plan A):

  1. Subclass NSSlider to add a second slider. (Alternative: create our own view rather than subclassing - not sure how difficult this is…)
  2. The sliders shouldn't be able to overlap. That'll enforce a "minimum" length, which is fine. Area outside of sliders shows as dark red.
  3. Dialog asks when the user clicks 'Trim Video…': "Are you sure you want to trim? The original video will be replaced by the trimmed video." Buttons are "Trim" and "Cancel"

The "Trim video" button should be disabled when the sliders are at the end positions.

Thoughts are welcome and appreciated. Have you seen a UI that has two sliders, or done it yourself, or know of a library or sample code? No sense re-making the wheel.

Trimming UI for Cocoa, QuickTime

I've got what you could consider a movie view in a window that looks like this:

Trim UI

What I'd like to add are some trimming controls, ideally something similar to the ones used in QuickTime Player:

Trim QT

Are there any open source, free, or even paid libraries that contain this type of UI, or is Apple keeping it all to themselves for now (and nobody else has seen fit to roll their own)?

If I'm not able to find something (or modify something) to do this, I'll have to create my own method of trimming. For simplicity, consistency, and the visual appeal I'm hoping someone knows of a way to trim like QuickTime Player…

P.S. Yes, trimming is coming to Analyzr.

Here’s to the Legitimately Crazy Ones

MM/MS and CW, nice to know you. You're not the crazy ones Apple talked about so long ago, but you've made my day on numerous occasions with your legitimate craziness.

For your sakes, and the sakes of your loved ones, please find a mental health professional and get help. 🙂

Love it!

Magic Trackpad Battery Dead Already?

Magic Trackpad Battery

I just got the thing on February 4 and the battery is already dead? Great.

Then again, they were the junky no-name batteries. Perhaps a pair of Duracells will last longer than a few months.

USPS Profanity

USPS Balls

I had to change "balls" to "spheres." Both "golf balls" and "golfballs" failed. I didn't bother to check things like "baseballs" or "mothballs."

Seriously…

Awesome Ball Girl Catch

It's so awesome I wonder how many people think it's faked somehow. Supposedly, it's not. 😉

Adium and Gmail Annoyance

Adium Gmail

How can you turn that dialog off in Adium?

I've changed my preferences to not show an alert, but that doesn't seem to do diddly squat. I've just now reset those, though, so perhaps they'll actually work now.

I'm using the latest nightly build.

Seve

The golf world lost a great champion earlier today, and while I was not into golf when Seve was in his prime, I enjoyed reading every story I could find about him when I got into golf, and he's one of a handful of players I really wish I could have seen in his prime.
