Why does this happen? As you can see, I'm trying to open an image via the contextual menu. I'd like to open it in Pixelmator, but instead of one choice, I'm given a choice of five. This makes no sense. I have one hard disk (the main one) with a copy of Pixelmator. That hard […]

For some reason, perhaps I started sitting at my desk at a different angle or something, but lately I've hit the caps lock key accidentally several times when I didn't mean to (when I meant to hit the shift key). So, finally, I disabled it.

So, Marco's "The Magazine" has been around for a few issues now. What's the general take? Worth the $2/month? Worth it if you have to read it on your iPhone 5 only (no iPad)? Thumbs up? Down? Somewhere in the middle?

Simply put, how can I create a document with two views of the same table? I'd like this table: To have a printable view that looks a bit like this: (Not that it matters but you can click for larger versions of each of those images.) The second table (which I'd like within the same […]

This column view bug - which I first noticed in Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) still exists in 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion). It's a pain in the rear, too, because if you select all and try to open (or move, copy, or some other things), you get an annoying error message: This is what happens when […]

Earlier today in prepping my Mac Pro for sale, after I'd de-authorized the computer in iTunes and after I thought I'd turned off iCloud syncing ((Obviously I hadn't.)), I inadvertently selected all of my contacts in Address Book and deleted them. Almost instantly ((Seriously, has iCloud EVER worked this fast when you wanted it to?)) […]

BusyCal 2.0 is out. It's a $29.99 UPGRADE. Yeah. A year or two or three ago, I used (and enjoyed) BusySync and BusyCal. It synchronized my calendar with my wife's, and worked quite nicely where iCal came up short. But with iCloud, Calendar in Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) works well enough. About the […]

Woohoo! I have extended storage space through September 30, 2013! Not that I use any of the space on iCloud. I download my mail and I don't store documents or files on iCloud. iTunes Match doesn't really count (it has its own limits IIRC) and I'm not close to meeting them. I don't even back […]

Good news all around - battery life in Mac OS X 10.8.2 seems to have been restored to its former glory (or close enough).

Is Sidekick under any development at all? If not, is there a replacement for it? I have an assigned IP address at home, a different background photo at work, and a few other changes I like to make, and Sidekick worked well to do those things (sometimes it simply failed, but I could change them […]

Intermittently I get an issue with Aperture (3.3.2) hanging on launch. The cause? A bad symlink within the application bundle. It typically fails with a 8/27/12 11:20:33.797 am Aperture[31820]: *** -[NSURL initFileURLWithPath:]: nil string parameter and I remember an Adium beta failed similarly. I'll chalk this up to bit rot at files copied over from […]
