Why does Mac OS X's icon cache so easily get screwed up? The thing can't go five hours without showing hard disk icons on .txt files, Photoshop icons on .c files, and in the case below, three different icons on three different files. What's worse, the only way to fix it seems to be to […]

Wowee. I've gotta get my hands on Motion sometime soon. $300? Says Apple to Adobe: screw you hippies!

By the way, there may or may not be a slight bump in "Apple coverage" here in the coming weeks given that they're no longer my employer. 🙂 Ahhhh, the beach! How I missed thee!

Hey hey, it's my MacAddict review of Consultant 2.21! Blast from the past. I had to look this up for one reason or another today and thought I might link to it here to save myself the trouble at a later time. Other reviews of mine (they don't list features on their Web site, unfortunately): […]

It's been exactly one year since, uhhh, last year, and that means that Apple is now 28. Founded on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, Apple has shipped nearly as many mini iPods as it is years old today! Happy Birthday, ya big fruit. 😀

As of right now, I have 9235 songs, 35304 listens, 104.9 days of music, 3.8 listens/song, and my favorite song is "Up!" by Shania Twain. These statistics are courtesy of iTunes PlayStats. I've long wanted to create an entire application that analyzed people's playlists, showed them charts and graphs of their genres, which artists they […]

Here's what I need to do daily: Look up data in a MySQL database from a PHP script. Insert that data into an Excel template. Email the Excel template. I can send a .xls file via email the same way I send a vCard, but only the kind you can create by tab-delimiting text and […]

I'm attempting to send email via PHP using Mac OS X 10.3's built in mailserver (postfix). I've followed the directions here and received no errors in setting up postfix. PHP generates no errors in sending the email. However, the email is never received. Does anyone have any ideas what steps I might take next? Most […]

Today I attempted - I kid you not - uploading an iPhoto album twenty times to my .Mac account. Each time between one and five pictures would not show up at all. The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing and expecting a different result. I suppose I was insane 19 times today. Eventually, […]

Today I swapped out my existing black pro keyboard for one I found in my closet. Typing on this thing is as close to typing nirvana as I can dream possible. It's soft yet responsive. Quiet. It's great. What more could I ask for from a keyboard? The old one is great too - but […]

For some time now my Go menu has looked like this: I have no idea why the "iDisk" and "Network" menu items are disabled. My permissions are correct. My iDisk is permanently mounted and synchronized, but it'd be nice to be able to choose "Someone Else's Public Folder" (or whatever it's called). What gives? How […]

I went on a bit of a tear today - though not as big as I had originally intended - and removed a few applications from my /Applications folder today. Actually, I put them onto .dmgs in case I should ever need them, but at least now they won't show up in LaunchBar. in other […]

I own a small (but growing!) Mac software company. So do about fifteen of my friends, and about 35 of my acquaintances. I excel at writing software. Debugging. Customer support. Drafting and choosing icons. You know: all of the geeky things. However, I suck at marketing and PR. It struck me today that that someone […]

So, I'm not sure when it happened, but I noticed today that Safari now displays image sizes (i.e. "128 x 128 pixels") in the menu bar when you view an image. Yay! My best guess is that this happened in 1.2. I haven't seen any other mentions of this yet, and it's new to me. […]
