I received my 1 TB Time Capsule today and, pursuant to the comments on my earlier entry, I'm hoping to get some help in setting up my new network. For the past several years I've run an 802.11g network named "Netski." I have a domed AirPort Express ("Dome") that has served as a printer share […]

{democracy:31} I haven't used a mousepad since… my first laser optical mouse in… 1999? 2000?

Occasionally, syncing contacts on my iPhone takes minutes. Like 5-10. Other times, it takes 30 seconds. I sync with .Mac and Entourage (just the contacts), but I don't think those matter. The .Mac syncing is always on, and disabling the Entourage syncing doesn't magically speed things up. FWIW, I have only 54 contacts in my […]

Yawn. Perhaps I'll have Aperture 2.0 and new MacBook Pros for my birthday (March 23)… dare to dream?

I'm used to, on my Mac, queuing up commands when I know a dialog will appear. For example, I'll hit a keystroke that requires confirmation and hit the "enter" key very quickly. In Windows, lately, I've been hitting the delete key to move a file to whatever the Trash in XP is called and hitting […]

Why the hell is there no confirmation dialog when you delete a subscription to a podcast in iTunes? Seriously? There's not even an undo, and it's not easy to figure out what podcast subscription you've deleted. It's easier to delete an entire subscription than an individual podcast! P.S. Yes, I just deleted a subscription, hence […]

My current home network is pretty simple: A white dome AirPort Extreme (APE) in my office hooked up to cable modem. An AirPort Express (APX) in my kitchen that extends the range of my network. I could probably do without this. Another APX in the TV stand, connected to an ethernet hub, which connects my […]

Just for personal knowledge.

It's been a few months since Time Warner took over from Adelphia in servicing my area. In that time, we've paid $59.95/month: $45.95 for basic cable Internet service, $17 for "Premium" service, and -$3.00 for owning our own cable modem (I've had this particular modem since I lived in Florida!). I had been assuming that […]

The thought occurs to me that the device I first talked about in January has come about in terms of hardware: it's an iPhone (or an iPod Touch). ((Yeah yeah, it's a little bigger than an iPod Shuffle-sized version, which I still think would sell (a Shuffle with WiFi, that is), but that's okay.)) It's […]

I currently have a Logitech MX-1000 mouse. It's a wireless laser mouse with, by my count, five buttons and a scroll wheel that can be pushed left, right, down (clicked), or scrolled up and down. That's approximately seven or eight "buttons" plus scroll wheel functionality. The problem with this mouse is the same as the […]

I'd never heard the song "Online" before but someone pointed it out on The Sand Trap forum. It's pretty funny. That's all I have to say about that. 😉

I tend to use my PayPal account as "petty cash." If I do a quickie job for someone that pays $100, I'll dump $50 of it to my bank account from PayPal and leave the rest there to pay for some software or some iTunes or other things like that. I'd like to set up […]

{democracy:23} Just today I became frustrated with editing my cookies (I don't know why I bothered to look at the list) and just deleted them all en masse. I wish browser cookies were easier to manage (in Safari at least).

And here I thought I was just about done with MP3. Then, along comes Amazon MP3, written up by John Gruber not once but twice. I will certainly be checking Amazon before the iTMS store now. 256 kpbs MP3s probably sound about the same as 192 kpbs AAC, but the prices seem better and the […]
