I'm off to Myrtle Beach today to test some golf equipment. I'd call it a fun trip but it won't be - I'll fall behind on some other work, miss my family, and will endure some fairly lousy weather. I'll be back on Saturday ((At which time I'll post this - I don't post about […]

You read the title correctly. Now, if you have half an hour, read the rest. That is simply one revealing fragment. This film is cheerfully ignorant, manipulative, slanted, cherry-picks quotations, draws unwarranted conclusions, makes outrageous juxtapositions (Soviet marching troops representing opponents of ID), pussy-foots around religion (not a single identified believer among the ID people), […]

Are all credit card transactions through all processors handled roughly like this: $0.30 + 0.022x. In other words, does every processing gateway charge a small fee (the 30 cents) and then a percentage of the overall transaction? Or are there gateways/processing agents/whatever-they're-called that just charge a flat percentage, like 5% ((Or even, I suppose, a […]

A quick list of the things for which I'm thankful, in no particular order whatsoever and as they come to me. My family and their health and well-being. Apple's resurgence. I shudder to think of where we'd be had the "late-90s" trend not been reversed. Athletics/sports. Watching (Go Pens!) and playing. The United States of […]

Oh how times have changed. My favorite (and only?) birthday party as a child involved having a few friends over to play pin the tail on the donkey (I cried because I didn't win) with four friends (one of whom I was forced to invite). We had cake and I got a few presents. I […]

On Monday, the wife, kid, and I went to a restaurant named "Twins" here in Erie. They're well known for their "broasted" chicken and, on Mondays, they had wings for $0.25. While flipping through the menu, I saw something I last had almost a decade ago: a true deep-dish Chicago-style pizza. The menu promised that […]

In general, I agree with this statement, offered by a friend I'll keep anonymous: I find it awfully disgusting that liberals are imploring the 46% of us who voted for McCain to 'unite' and 'come together' when it was those very same liberals who, the day GWB won in 2004, were spewing things like 'He's […]

What is it with actors not holding an iPhone properly on TV? What's funny is that later in the same scene, Mrs. Ari was holding the phone in the proper orientation.

(Scene: Man holding child in arms, standing in front of a voting machine.) Me: "Okay, tap that one right there." Her (not in a whisper, I'll put it that way): "No! I don't want to vote for ______ ______"

I'm totally making up numbers here, but in the current electoral system 10 million Californians can vote Republican, lose, and get 0 electoral votes, while 500,000 can vote Republican in, say, Rhode Island, win, and get their four electoral votes. We already have precincts or districts set up for the House of Representatives: why don't […]

Today I noticed for the first time no less than 15 parents (almost all fathers, but not exclusively) drinking beer while walking around with their kids trick-or-treating. ToT occurs between the hours of 6pm to 8pm here, and three of the parents were actually dragging around a beer-filled cooler on wheels! What's up with that? […]

Yet another reason to drink Coke. Ugh. The Mountain Dew bottle isn't so bad, but the other bottles are being compared to male reproductive organs and the logo work, in the words of one commenter, looks as though it's the work of a designer trying to convince the higher-ups not to change the current design.

I was going to use this post to question the use of "Jony" as a name for Jonathan Ive (as seen when watching the video at the Macbook section of Apple's site. Then someone told me that "Jony" is a valid abbreviation for Jonathan. So despite never having seen Jon Ive use "Jony" as his […]

Awesome. Unfortunately, I'm lacking the time, creativity, patience, and talent to do anything like this, so I must simply respect in awe the work of others. This one's way up there. P.S. I'll check out the "making of" page later, too.
