Question: What is your favorite airport into which to fly (or out of which to fly)? My Answer: I don't have one. They all suck. 🙂 But I'm curious what others think. I don't do much air travel… You are encouraged to answer the Question of the Day for yourself in the comments or on […]

Question: How important is a person's wealth (or income) in choosing them as a potential partner for a date? My Answer: Not very. Though the kind of job they have is very indicative of the kind of person they are, I found. You are encouraged to answer the Question of the Day for yourself in […]

Question: What is your standard tip for what you deem to be average service? My Answer: 15% works, though when leaving cash I usually round to the nearest (or highest) dollar. Sometimes $3.77 becomes $5 if it's easy to leave a five (or $8.33 to $10, etc.). You are encouraged to answer the Question of […]

Question: What is your best score at this game? My Answer: 27.12 seconds. Then I got careless and touched a wall. You are encouraged to answer the Question of the Day for yourself in the comments or on your blog.

I'm a Web developer. I use BBEdit. As such, ".html" files (and .php, and .inc, and .htm, and .cgi, and so forth) are set, by default, to open in BBEdit. I'm getting tired of applications assuming I've set HTML documents to open in a browser. Today, I clicked "Buy Now" in the FileMaker Pro v8 […]

This song happened to come on today: Erik is listening to "Winter Wonderland" by Eurythmics from the album "A Very Special Christmas" (1987). Erik has rated this song 3.0 stars and last played this song Wednesday, January 11, 2006 1:23:50 am. At about 2:05, I heard (a few times) what sounded almost exactly like the […]

On Friday, at 1:08pm, I'm playing a former (and likely future) U.S. Open course: Bethpage Black. I've played two rounds in Tiger Woods 2004 (it's not in 2005 and I didn't spend the money to get 2006) and scored well. It's unlikely I'll repeat such a feat "IRL". 🙂

After yesterday's issue with mt-tb.cgi, I moved The Sand Trap to its own server. And I've renamed the TrackBack script. For now, I'd rather just leave MT thinking it's mt-tb.cgi, let TrackSpammers get 404s, and fix the entry's "Successful Pings" URLs via phpMyAdmin. Incidentally, a little birdie tells me that there will be a public […]

Interland (now web.com or something) literally changed the permissions on The Sand Trap's cgi-bin directory to 000 because mt-tb.cgi was being hit hundreds of times per minute. I have a script that checks every five minutes (now every one minute) and, if more than 30 CGI scripts are running, kills mt-comment.cgi, mt-search.cgi, and mt-tb.cgi. Earlier […]

Saft 8.3.0 adds "Tab Thumbnails" but whenever I turn them on (shift-command-option-T) I just get a solid metal window that covers the whole screen. Nothing like thumbnails… What up wit dat?

My country club posts their tee times as three .txt files that are included between <pre> tags. The process has been: 1) edit saturday.txt (or sunday, or holiday), 2) upload via FTP. This year they'd like to do the tee times in Excel. Clearly they can "save as" a .txt file, but I was wondering […]
I have a 96-minute MP3 from the 2004 O'Reilly Mac OS X conference in which Brent Simmons says "NetNewsWire Sucks, PulpFiction is the Bomb!" It occurs at 42:35, for those who have the MP3, and I'll spare you the full-length disclaimer and simply state the obvious: Brent is not speaking for himself, the quote is […]

I filled in some of the holes in our lawn today with dirt and seed - the trenches left over from the truck that delivered wood for the pool room several months ago. Now I'm waiting for the rain to come to soak the dirt and ensure that the seeds grow. I still need another […]

A picture at Valerio's on 32nd and Pittsburgh Avenue here in Erie showed small baby girl eating a submarine sandwich. The handwritten caption read: Your never to young to enjoy a Valerio's sub! It's been there for at least a year and nobody's managed to change it, despite the fact that you could easily fit […]

My (step-)kid went to the doctor yesterday. The diagnosis? She's quite literally anal retentive. Despite the stool softeners we've been giving her the past month or so, she has a lot of, uhhh, "stuff" in there that she doesn't let out as often as she should. So, Carey and I were forced to give her […]
