I just got a call from a woman who is interested in buying (on behalf of an unnamed company) "iacas.com." I got iacas.com a few years ago when it became available because "iacas" has been my screen name for over a decade on just about every system out there (AOL, forums, etc.). I bought "iacas.org" […]

I'm involved today in a bit of a professional flame war. Rather, I'm being baited, but have thus far (and will continue to) resisted the wiggling worm with the buried hooks. A blogger who disagrees with my opinion (and, the overwhelming majority of the time, the facts) on a certain topic essentially accused me of […]

Today I toggled a setting in this blog's "Feedback" area. I now immediately publish comments only from authenticated commenters. This is two steps up from "no one" and one step down from "Anyone." MovableType hasn't been updated in months. The next time it is, I'd like to see a setting that immediately approves comments only […]

Nobody invited me to the "Four Things" meme, but that's fine. I typically avoid memes. That doesn't mean, however, that I'm going to pull a lame-ass stunt like the 37 Signals folks. I don't use any of their products, though I know several people who do. Here's more. And now that I've written that much, […]

I'm considering disabling the comments feed for this site. Does anyone use it? It'd mainly be to speed up rebuilds, so if even a few people use it it probably won't be worth the gains. Just let me know.

Apparently I should talk about mesothelioma, mesothelioma attorneys and lawyers, and asbestos a lot more frequently. Why? They pay well. Seriously? I guess so.

I followed the directions here but, for some reason, my Google map doesn't show Lake View Country Club like the official Google Map does. I am not sure why, either. The example maps (first image) show parks and other green places. P.S. If I try to show two Google maps, only the second one loads.

This is my test entry. I'll use it to test just about everything I could do in a standard file. You can already see the em and strongs. How about a strike?

I've registered a new domain name: billiardsdrills.com. My goal is to gather some billiards drills, tips, tricks, etc. and post them online for all to see. I envision something similar to The Sand Trap, but with less opinion and news. The goal is mainly so that I have a place to gather a bunch of […]

This is pretty nifty. If only I had a use for it… but then again, it could be used for font sizes, etc.: iPhoto-like image resizing using Javascript. I really should rename the "Blogging" category to something that encapsulates all Web technologies. Hmmm…

It seems to me that this is a copyright issue. If someone takes your RSS - content you've created - and re-pulbishes it without permission, how is it not a copyright violation? By publishing the XML, you grant users the right to read the file (that's all an aggregator does), but not to re-publish it.

This morning I had to delete two junk mails that got through SpamSieve. It stands out because it happens so rarely - SpamSieve is over 99% effective. This morning (it's not yet 11am) I've already deleted about 50 spamments that have made it through on NSLog();. They aren't being published because, fortunately, they have three […]

Jon Evans asked me in this post on "the 'feed://' protocol" what browsers were misunderstanding the "feed:/" prefix. It turns out none of them are: the feed protocol seems to be misunderstood by feed readers written in Java. Every attempt (and there were a few hundred since I disabled the RedirectMatch) to access http://nslog.com/feed://nslog.com/comments.rss or […]
