I've looked in a few stores (including Wal-Mart). I'd like to buy some incense sticks (for this), but I'm not sure where to find them in Erie. I could probably find some at Spencer's or a head shop, but I'd prefer to avoid those places. I just want to take pictures of smoke, not mask […]

I'm all for the $1 coins. But shouldn't we eliminate the penny first? The penny, last I heard, costs more to make than it's worth. I can just hear our President saying "Sure, that's true, but we'll make it up in volume!" Ditch the penny. Keep the $1 coin. It'll make people who use vending […]

I posted briefly about this "thing" yesterday, but today I'm officially announcing that I'm looking for an entrepreneurial web developer/designer. If you're skilled - and I don't care whether it's in PHP or Ruby or whatever - get in touch with me. I will not discuss details of the project for at least a week […]

I hereby swear I'll never see a Danny Gans show in Vegas (or anywhere else) so long as I live.

After completing the move of The Sand Trap over to the same server that hosts this blog, I found that I was restarting Apache every few minutes - and that doing so gracefully wouldn't work. Why? MaxClients in httpd.conf was set to only 10! I've bumped the setting to a more reasonable 150 or so. […]

I have two NetFlix movies sitting beside me that I won't get to watch until Monday or so. I'm tempted to rip them to my computer for later viewing (on Monday or Tuesday) and send them back today. While physically in my possession, I believe I am allowed to media shift the movies under fair […]

It turns out you can walk right past the exit bag checkers at Best Buy, but not at Sam's Club ((You can't at Sam's Club, Costco, etc. because you agree to have your bags checked as a condition of your membership. Best Buy is not a "membership"-based retailer.)). But doing so is still not recommended […]

Two nice things happened to people I know and I wanted to share them. First, Carey was waiting in a looooong line at Kohl's on Black Friday. A Canadian woman behind her ((We get a lot of Canadian shoppers at the Millcreek Mall for some reason.)) was wearing a heavy jacket and holding on to […]

My order for the Wii component cables, after brief five-hour stint as "backordered," has shown "Preparing Order" since about 5pm ET yesterdy. One peculiarity, though, is the sales tax I'm being charged. The product is $29.95, but as you can see, I'm being charged sales tax on the shipping charges as well (PA sales tax […]

I've spent a few hours today trying to get SpamAssassin (2.6.3) to trust the local network or, at least, to removed RCVD_IN_DYNABLOCK. I've edited /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.conf and /var/qmail/mailnames/barzeski.com/erik/user_prefs. I've changed the site-wide user_prefs.template and restarted the server a few times. None of these changes seemed to have much effect. RCVD_IN_DYNABLOCK was still being given a score […]
