Yesterday I wrote about how I was considering the BlackBerry 7100 and the Treo 600. I'm no longer considering them, and with that, T-Mobile has pretty much left my list of desired cell phone carriers.
That leaves Cingular, which has absolutely no presence in Erie, PA and Verizon, which has shitty phones and with whom I never hope to deal with ever again after the "Hawaii is not a state" incident of 2000.

Carey and I are going to apply for our marriage license later today. Whoopty doo! We've successfully managed to make getting married the least exciting thing we may do this week. no pomp, no circumstance (well, not in the "pomp and circumstance" sort of way) - just paperwork. Joy of joys! 😀

Carey and I are looking to move from our separate cell phone plans (Cingular for me, Cellular One for her) to a T-Mobile plan. The only other carriers in our region are Cellular One (very small) and Verizon Wireless, and I'll never use Verizon again if I can help it.
So, T-Mobile it is.

Question: Has anyone used AppleJack? If so, what do you think? If not, had you heard of it before?
My Answer: I'm curious what others think. It looks nice!

Interland - and all of the sites on it, including all of mine - was down for about six hours today. Lovely, really. Just lovely.
They're back now, but suffice to say I'm not too happy that it was down so long. I still can't get email at The Sand Trap.
And that's that.

Question: What did you do for your mom today?
My Answer: Nothing. Absolutely nuttin'! I am taking her to a nice dinner this week, though. Just not today, right now. Her birthday is mixed in there too.

Question: If you had to describe your decorating (or design) style in one word, what would it be?
My Answer: Austere.

Question: For what time is your alarm set?
My Answer: 6:00am, but that's for Carey, not me. It's actually 5:54 because, for some bizarre reason, I like multiples of 9 and 6. 54 is just that.

I'm waffling on the whole HDTV bit. Granted, I only posted yesterday, but I've done a fair amount of research now and I've all but decided on the Sony KDF60XS955 60" Rear-Projection LCD TV. Retails for about $3600, but I'm pretty sure I could get it for just over $3,000. 20" deep and looks like it'd fit well in the corner of that room.
I've ruled out plasma. They're smaller, they're crisper, and they look better. They're also twice the price or more, and really aren't serviceable, I've read. With the RP LCDs, apparently it's not too hard to replace a lamp. Best Buy's service plan (which I normally wouldn't buy, but on a $3500 TV, I may for $399) covers lamp replacements.

Question: How big is your TV? How far do you sit from it?
My Answer: 36", currently, and about eight or nine feet, tops.

Yay! Raw support is here! I'll update this post later when I've had a chance to play with it.
Update: seems to work well. A bit slow to show the thumbnails, but I suppose I could just name my images properly to begin with. Dragging a .cr2 file (from a Digital Rebel XT) to Photoshop's dock icon works as expected.

For various reasons, which most of you should be able to guess, the home page to this site - http://nslog.com/ - is now pretty bland. The "home page" continues to exist at index.php, but I updated the DirectoryIndex directive to put index.html ahead of index.php, and index.html is the bland "Erik/Orange/Geek" thing you see now. It will probably remain there for two to three weeks.
In the meantime, all PermaLinks remain unchanged, and you can still visit the home page if you have any desire to do so by adding "index.php" to the end of the domain name.

The new house - to which we're getting closer and closer every day - has a big, big, big living room. So big my trusty 36" Wega (bought before the Wega line turned to crap) might look rather small. So on to bestbuy.com I go, only to find the "Philips 50" Plasma HD-Ready TV with HDMI Input." Whatever that means. On sale this week for only $4750 (regularly $4999 or so). Uh hmmm.
Is that a good price? Is a Phillips the way to go? Are all HDTVs over 40" pretty much guaranteed to be plasma or thin-screen? I guess so. I've got (and will carry over) my DirecTV. I've got a good Sony DVD player and a good Sony receiver ("only" 5.1, but that's fine). Good or adequate speakers.
Currently hooked in to the receiver:
- GameCube
- PlayStation 2
- DirecTV
- AirPort Express (no video, obviously)
- DVD Player
The only things hooked into the TV are the receiver and the video output for the DVD player (composite output, or whatever the "good kind") is. And gee, look at that: the Sony Wega 50" Plasma is only $6650! 😛
Any suggestions? Advice? Opinion? Anyone know how I might get a plasma TV deeply discounted? 😀

Question: If you had $100 and were transported back in time 100 years to invest it knowing that you would cash out in 2005, in what would you invest?
My Answer: Stocks in some companies may pay well, but I think I'd buy small chunks of land all around the Los Angeles area. An acre here, an acre there. All throughout the popular parts of the city with multi-billion dollar buildings and businesses (or some really famous people).
