The opening of the downtown home for Golf Evolution is getting closer and closer…

Today was what may be, for a few years, an annual golf trip to Orchard Ponds. The idea is that we have a foursome comprised of Myself, Carey, Natalie, and Brandon. Natalie gets to play from the red tees on every hole, and will end up with a score.

This year got off to a rocky start, as Nat wasn't hitting the ball very well. It's to be expected - she hasn't practiced much this summer. After five holes and a few near breakdowns over shots that weren't really anywhere near as bad as she thought, I had to step in to help. Her scores on the last four holes were half that of the first five, and it simply required that she not stand up so completely straight at the end of her backswing.

In the end, finishing the way she did, she had a good time, and for at least another five or six years, that's what's most important about golf.

Dave and I won the Pro-Assistant last year, and as defending champs, we put up a miserable defense, shooting 76 at Peek 'n Peak's Upper Course.

The day got off to a lousy start when my putt did about 340° on the first hole and popped out, sitting on the lip. I later lipped from 77 yards for eagle, too. Just how the day went for us.

66 was low, and eight teams broke par. I could throw out plenty of excuses - namely that we've been working on the building so much lately and aren't exactly in super golf shape - but it is what it is.

We still had a good time, and that's almost all that matters.

Nice putts. Wish the second was a bit faster than 57 seconds, though.

Under Lion, what's the best/easiest way to automatically switch your Location (in the Network settings) based on where you are?

AirPortLocation is no longer being updated and while it worked "okay" it over-reached a bit and changed all sorts of stuff.

I may just make an AppleScript to do the two things I need (change desktops, change Network location, and the first is not really a must), but I could swear there was software out there to do this.

Anyone?

Everyone else is sharing their memories, but my memories of the day are fairly limited.

I was in South Florida - Delray Beach - at the time. When I was in college earlier in 2000-2001 I had seen the election with the "hanging chads" on the national news, and now here I was living in the place where terrorists lived and trained. It's an odd thing seeing your neighborhood grocery store on the nightly news, let alone twice in one year.

I remember it was a Tuesday, and since we were paid on the 15th, I stopped going in after that Friday, effectively quitting but having worked through a full work week.

My boss came in to my office, which I shared with Dave and Alison. Alison had family in NYC and she was trying to reach them. He said, after three planes had crashed and we knew full well what was going on, "My family's fine, so yours is too. Get back to work."

I remember working the full day - despite every other business having closed - and driving home. The drive home was the easiest ride home ever because nobody was outside and everybody had been sent home from work.

I went to my neighbor's house and we watched the coverage until 1am or so when we went to bed.

The most haunting image to me was the image of people jumping because they had no other choice.

The world is a very different place now than it was ten years ago.

A classic. The toughest part is getting the second ball to balance on top of the first. The rest is simple physics.
