Question: What do you want for Christmas this year? Will you get it?
My Answer: Nothing, and unfortunately, probably not. 🙂

And so ends the Steelers chances of making the playoffs today. Nice defense. Nice coaching. A few bad throws by Ben, but overall I have a hard time flagging him for playing poorly.

Question: When is the last time you fired a gun?
My Answer: Months and months ago. I need to find an indoor gun range or something to get in some practice.

An article at stillers.com mentions "fireronzook.com." I was friends with some FL Gators fans while I lived in FL, and I can attest to their distaste for Ron Zook. My own distaste for Bill Cowher is an equal match, but the article linked above provides a nifty way of looking at it:
So if we add everything all up, Bill Cowher has been in football for 31 years from High School thru the Pros. He has won ZERO championships at any level. His mentor has 26 years in the NFL with ZERO Championships. His "brothers" have 16 years head coaching experience with ZERO SB appearances. His offspring have 24 years of NFL head coaching experience with ZERO Super Bowl appearances. When you add in Ron Zook's time as a college head coach you come up with over 100 years of coaching lineage and zero championships. A CENTURY OF FAILURES are the true blood lines of Coach Bill Cowher. I think it's time to take this dog out behind the shed, Old Yeller style.
I should note too that firebillcowher.com does exist.

It seems to me that this is a copyright issue. If someone takes your RSS - content you've created - and re-pulbishes it without permission, how is it not a copyright violation?
By publishing the XML, you grant users the right to read the file (that's all an aggregator does), but not to re-publish it.

The fellow over at "business on the mac" sums up my thoughts on haxies quite well. While I too generally respect the Drunken Comic Book Figure, I too disagreed vehemently with him on this topic. As the author there says, "DB's obviously never developed, sold and supported a consumer software product…"
I still run a haxie-free system because I don't care for the odd crashes it generates. Were I not a developer, I too might attribute them to the software I happened to be using at the time and not the haxie. But I know better…
P.S. Yes, BBEdit's dialog could be written in a friendlier fashion. But if that's honestly DB's only concern, he has not represented it well at all.

Question: What's your favorite mixed drink?
My Answer: One I invented, called a "Bloody Pussy." There's a story behind the name (condensed version: it was the sequel to Bloody Balls, duh!), but I've not really told anyone the recipe. I've not seen another recipe like it, either. Bloody Balls is just half lemonade, half cherry Puckers.

As anyone who knows me can tell you, I really like golf. I've also always liked pool but have really never had the time or opportunity to play it as much: it's not a high school sport, you pay every time you go typically (unlike a $330 junior membership at a country club), and you really have to play against someone.
Previously, I'd play pool like a hack - I had no idea what I was doing and I'd hit balls hard figuring "the more I hit, the more likely one will get hit and find a pocket." I had no touch and no skill. Well, recently I was given a book and am beginning the process of teaching myself.

Question: What do you make of this?
My Answer: I am not allowed to say. 😉 But I am interested in what you may think…

Given the fact that Ed Werder also agrees, and that the Colts could offer no comment to explain the existence of the microphones, I rate it as highly possible that the Indianapolis Colts cheat by artificially enhancing crowd noise.
For the record, the Steelers still would have had their asses kicked, but come playoff time I expect the microphones to be M.I.A.

Use of QuickTime VR to display panoramic images of games? That's certainly an interesting use of panoramas!

I've never mentioned it here, but my iPod Shuffle has an engraving on it. When it's free, why not?

This morning I had to delete two junk mails that got through SpamSieve. It stands out because it happens so rarely - SpamSieve is over 99% effective.
This morning (it's not yet 11am) I've already deleted about 50 spamments that have made it through on NSLog();. They aren't being published because, fortunately, they have three URLs and I only allow two for automatic publication. They have:
- A changing IP address (so I can't block them that way)
- Different names and email addresses (so I can't block them that way)
- Near-gibberish content that says "Some friends told me about this site, and now i'm glad they told me about it…" before it links to three sites.
The sites are different each time and include non-obnoxious sites like cnn.com, irobotmovie.com, and more. The links and the entire comment have nothing to do with the blog entry.

Question: How long do you get for Christmas vacation?
My Answer: Carey gets about a week and a half. I will probably take a break lasting about as long…

A friend of mine was using Netflix but has switched to Blockbuster's rental service. For those who have tried both, which do you like and why? I don't see much difference at face value: both are $17.99 for 3-at-a-time rentals.
