Carey and I test drove some cars today. By that, I mean that I test drove them. Carey watched Little One.
I drove the X3 and it was priced at about $35k with whatever options it had. The ride was stiff and it didn't offer much - I would estimate that you're paying $5k for the BMW name. It's at the very bottom of my list.
The Touareg is a base model V6 in the color I like with the Bi-Xenon lamp upgrade, the curbside assistance upgrade (I forget what they call it) and the better sound system. It's priced at about $38k right now, but the guy offered 2% above invoice for it. That puts it on the verge of being tempting. He said there were no incentives, but someone on a forum says they should be about $2k to $3k below invoice right now. It's a 2005, after all (2006s will begin arriving in November). More on this one and the Highlander later.
The Highlander is the Limited edition one - leather seats (don't care), 6-disc changer (don't care), third seat (don't care), moonroof (like the VW - nice!). The salesperson was a bit of a clod, and he was having a jolly time bashing the VW for "electrical issues" and all sorts of stuff. I didn't much care for that. The third seat is a waste and takes up cargo space. But it rode really well and has some nice features lacking on the VW (electric seat, etc.)

Question: Do you know Java?
My Answer: Very little. I've never had much need for it. 😛

I've not narrowed down the specifics of this bug, but it's affected me multiple times. The basics are this:
- I'm signed in to TypeKey via "keep me logged in" (for two weeks, supposedly).
- I visit this site and post a comment as a logged-in user (i.e. no name and email address text field in the comment area).
- The comment is moderated and it does not appear in the admin area to be a TypeKey authorized comment.
- If I sign out and then sign in, the comment goes through normally.
I have not narrowed down what causes the problem - whether it's a certain time delay or what - but I know others that have had the problem too. Perhaps they can pitch in with some more information.

Good news:
Implemented blog-level setting for basename length limit. (Weblogs that are upgraded to 3.2 are configured to use the previous default of 15 characters. New weblogs get a default setting of 30 characters.)
I'm now satisfied. I had complained about this before.

I just configured the ideal Hummer H3. It includes the towing package, the Luxury package (6-disc CD changer, leather seats, and better speakers), and a few other little things (like the sunroof). Total MSRP, not counting some little things like splashguards and crossbows: $34,075.
Wow, I didn't know they were that cheap. Do they still get about 10 MPG or have they managed to reach 25 or so? Mmmmmm, me want.
No Hummer dealers in Erie, though, it seems. Still, me want. Me planning drive to Wexford, soon. Mmmmmmm.

Need some? Want some? Brad is keeping a list of CoreData Tips. It may not beat the other lists out there, but then again, that's not the point…
I've yet to get into CoreData too much - far too many legacy projects - but I plan to get deeply involved in it quite soon. I have a big project coming up…

Question: What is your favorite flavor Pop-Tart? Or do you eschew all "breakfast in a tin-foil bag" type meals?

John Gruber's rant back at Cory Doctorow has once again painfully reminded me how stupid otherwise intelligent people can be. Not John, but Cory - who brain farts so hard he's got to clean the bowl.
Cory's like this sometimes, too. Bits of brilliance mixed in with some of the dumbest commentary you've ever seen. I unsubscribed from Boing Boing ages ago because I got tired of Cory's silly, stupid rants when they began to outnumber the brilliant ones.

I'm no longer an Apple employee, so I can tell you that all of these are true, along with a bunch of other things.
Yes, I spent some time in south Florida as a part-time Mac Specialist at the Wellington Green store. I got discounts and a chance to get out of the apartment - a luxury to someone who otherwise worked from home every day. Then I moved to the Boca store as a Mac Genius, largely for the health care. After that, I moved into some internal consulting for Apple for a few months. That will come as a revelation to some of my former co-workers, who no doubt thought I'd been fired, but my non-disclosure just expired a few days ago, so there that is…

Question: For what purpose do you use your mobile (cell) phone?
My Answer: For calling people, answering calls, and taking about ten pictures, ever. That's it. I don't browse the Web, I don't use a PDA, and… that's about it.

Question: I asked what your favorite beer was, so now: what's your favorite mixed drink?
My Answer: Half amaretto, half chocolate milk. Mix in a tad of Kahlua if you must. Amaretto sours if you really must.

When I was in Florida, I had a nice little 49cc, 1.9 HP scooter. It went 45-50 MPH and got right around 100 MPG. Florida law said that you could use a standard driver's license if your scooter was < 50cc and < 2 HP. Several shops rented scooters to beach-goers and vacationers, because they could, and it made a lot of sense.
In PA (and Ohio, and most other states, I guess), scooters are classified as motorcycles regardless of their horsepower or engine size. Carey and I were mildly interested in buying a scooter until we found this out. Now I'd classify our interest as, well, not non-existent, but close.
This post really has no purpose other than to allow me to say: Florida's law, good. PA's law, bad. Pffffffft.

Question: What's your favorite kind of beer?
My Answer: Guinness, Killians Irish Red, or Sam Adams Cherry Wheat, in that order (roughly). I'm far from a big fan of beer, and really only drink it when I must. That works out to about three times per year.

Question: What is your favorite activity?
My Answer: Playing golf. When I can't do that, I enjoy writing about golf. Of course, I prefer anything that involves Carey more, even if it's just watching a movie, but for my own sake I've defined activity as more a physical activity and not simply anything you "do." And I do try to keep this blog somewhat PG, so, yeah, my favorite physical activity is golf. 😉
