I've ordered two 2 GB sticks of RAM from RAMJet for the MacBook Pro. This means I'll have two 1 GB sticks available. If anyone wants them, and can offer a token (shipping plus a few bucks), they're yours. I have no use for them.
The RAM will work in MacBooks, Mac Minis, and MacBook Pros.
My RAM will be here Friday.

We need a tagline for Rivet. If you would like a free copy, suggest the winning tagline or slogan.
Rivet is of course a soon-to-be-released application that streams media (photos, videos, and movies) from your Mac to your Xbox 360.

I'd like to make a pinhole camera (just something simple, out of a box or something) with instant film. I'm fairly certain I can find enough variations of pinhole camera online to suit my tastes, but I'm not so certain about the instant film: can it be found? Does it exist in larger sheets than the traditional "Polaroid" style size? Is it really $7.99 for 10? Black and white is fine… Is there some sort of hidden place where I can get some 4x5" sheets of B&W instant film for less than $0.80 apiece?

The Democracy (voting) plugin needs an update from 2.0.1 for WordPress 2.5. The un-edited 2.0.1 leaves a lot of "n" characters (presumably from the "\n" characters in the source files) in posts. Per the later comments on the page, removal of all "\n" from the two files class.php and democracy.php is a temporary work-around.
Here's to hoping the authors of such plugins aren't abandoning them. My plugins still work and I still use both on several sites.

The Erie Zoo is small. That's nice simply because you can get closer to the animals (but not so great for the animals themselves). It has a clear path that you can follow (though you may need to visit a time or two first), and at virtually every point along the path there are animals to see.
The Cleveland Zoo, on the other hand, lacks this clear planning. Much of your time at the Cleveland Zoo is spent walking or riding from place to place. You'll double back past the same exhibits. Each enclosure is larger, but they're also spread out quite a bit more than necessary. Even the Primates, Cats, and Fish section at the Cleveland Zoo - an indoor building - lacks a clear path, and it's indoors.
The ideal zoo would be a mix of the two: large enclosures, more animals, and a clear walking path that takes you past everything there is to see.

This bug has not been fixed in WordPress 2.5. The TRAC ID 5793 hasn't been touched for awhile either, unfortunately.

Lightroom 2.0's beta adds, like Aperture 2.0, the ability to have plugins. Unlike Aperture, Lightroom manages to allow plugins to edit data non-destructively ((This may or may not be true. I've read later reports that say Lightroom's plugin architecture is much weaker than Apple's, and that some plugins may have to act the same way as Apple's. It's just that the included dodge/burn - very similar to Apple's "sample" plugin - behaves differently. We'll have to wait to see how "non-destructive" Lightroom's plugins really are.)).
I've been railing on Apple's rather crappy "plugin support" since it became obvious it was not a non-destructive ((I think "non-destructive" isn't the best term. How about "non-duplicative" or "doesn't make a bunch of extra files for each frickin' plugin"?)) process. Why Apple thinks managing a bunch of TIFFs or PSDs is acceptable is beyond me.
I plan on reading this comparison later today.

From right to left, I have Spotlight, FUS (short username), the date/time, .Mac Sync, Time Machine, AirPort, Spaces, FastScripts, TypeIt4Me, Rivet, and occasionally Twitterrific. So, that's about ten with possibilities for an eleventh. About a year ago, I think I had about six.

P.S. Democracy seems to be having problems with WordPress 2.5.

Cyndicate 1.2 is now available for download from either Cyncial Peak's website or the in-application Sparkle auto-update whiz-bang-a-ma-thing. As with all Cyndicate point releases, this is a free update for all Cyndicate users. This release is mainly bug fixes with a few nice new features added in like posting to twitter and better control over enclosures and feed scheduling.

When was the last really good Internet April Fool's joke? Because I can't remember one. Heck, Bare Bones' hardware for faster text processing stands out in my mind as one of the funniest simply because it was rather unexpected.

In two words: not good.
My first attempt to back up my MacBook pro (~115 GB of data) failed for some unknown reason about 30 GB in. My second backup attempt failed much more quickly and for unknown reasons.
My third attempt progressed at a rate of about 1.5 GB/hour (on an 802.11N network) - yeah, a single backup was going to take almost 80 hours. I have no idea why it was going to take so long, but about 50 hours in, the house lost power and the backup failed. The next "first" backup was going to be 115 GB again, so instead I erased the Time Capsule and re-started the backup manually.
It's running along at a faster clip now - it started shortly before I began writing this entry and it's surpassed 1 GB already, so perhaps this one will go to completion by tomorrow morning.

Today the Pittsburgh Penguins won (over the Rangers) 3-1 to step to the top of the Eastern conference. Woo!
Today the Penguins of Erie's D League fell to a third-period comeback by the Blades, losing 2-1. The Blades, who began the season 1-11, are now playing in the championship game and will finish the season in no worse than second place out of six teams. The team they play in the championship game: the Ice Dogs, a team that's moving up to the C League next year.
And yes, I play on the Blades. Some pictures of our team playing at Mercyhurst can be seen here.

Aperture 2.1 was released with a sample plugin. I guess that may partly answer this question. I haven't checked yet, but I believe the plugin architecture is still not non-destructive.
WordPress 2.5 was released. I'll be installing this very soon here on this blog, then on The Sand Trap, and then on some others.
Cyndicate 1.2 will be available soon and Rivet 1.0b8 is out and should reach 1.0 soon - both perhaps this week.

I'm on my way to North Carolina today to visit a friend, play some golf, take some photographs, and relax a little.
Update: Pfffft. The weather Friday was fine, but the other days we didn't even play golf. 40°! I could get that in Erie. Or warmer.
