If there's one thing that infuriates me on the way home from golf, it's the fact that, from PSU/Behrend to 79, the speed limit on I-90 is 55 MPH. Never mind that it's 2½ miles less going east (it ends at Parade Street, not the PSU/Behrend exit), but simply the fact that 55 MPH is completely meaningless.
Peach street is a busy exit. Fine. Put the 55 MPH speed limit in place from one exit before (State Street) to one exit after (I-79). Don't chop 10 MPH off for an extra 6 miles just for the heck of it.
Very few people actually obey the damn speed limit, cops don't enforce it, but because it's speeding I follow the speed limit. The differential between the 10% or so of cars going 55 MPH (really 59, but you know what I mean) and those going 69 or even 75, 80 MPH is too great and leads to a lot more problems than raising the speed limit to 65 would bring.

Michael Tsai points out the existence of ProFontX. Happy Easter to me! I've long struggled with either Monaco (10 point, typically) or the old ProFont in a few applications. In the Terminal, I was using MPW or Anonymous. In Entourage, ProFont (where things like "l/" would literally disappear from the screen). In Ecto, I just now switched from Monaco 10 to ProFontX 9 (though I may switch back).
Ooh, BBEdit, I'll have to go make the changes there too, even though it won't benefit anything. If all goes well, ProFont will be bye bye in a few days.
Such small victories for us geeks, I tell you…

I have two lights in my upstairs hallway. They're controlled by a switch downstairs, a switch outside the master bedroom, and a switch outside a second bedroom.
The switch outside the second bedroom (office) got "stuck" lately, so we bought a four-way switch to replace it. The old one says "4-way switch" on it, so that's what we bought.
There are two black wires and two white wires. I'll call them B1, B2, W1, and W2. They were wired up as follows:
W1 W2
B1 B2

Judi noticed that Akismet for MovableType is now available. The plugin has received good reviews from WordPress users, so I'm giving it a shot here at NSLog();. We'll see how things go here first before I deploy the plugin at The Sand Trap.

Question: Are your taxes all done or have you filed for an extension?
My Answer: Carey and I are done. Whew. April 15 (tomorrow) falls on a Saturday, so the tax lady told us we had until Monday (the 17th) to send in our taxes. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me - postmarked by the 15th is postmarked by the 15th. The post office is open on Saturdays… anyway. We're done. And we will send them in today or tomorrow at the latest.

Question: Do you like getting cards?
My Answer: My wife feels that cards are not of much value. Easter cards, birthday cards, etc. She derives no joy from cards at all and thinks that they are a waste of money. I tend to agree, though I also think that if you buy inexpensive cards, it's a fairly cheap (<$1) way of telling someone you were thinking of them.

Question: What is your (Mac OS X) software update procedure?
My Answer: I download the software update. I let it install. Sometimes I put off rebooting for a day if I'm doing a lot of work. Eventually, I click "restart" and let it restart. That's it.
This question came about as a result of the "repair permissions" chatter in the Mac Web. I repair my permissions every night as part of a cron job, right before my backup script kicks in, simply because it can't hurt anything and I want to make sure my backup is bootable and complete.

Well, Remote Desktop 3.0 is out and some people are happy. Every time I hear about Remote Desktop and look at the $299 price tag, I simply wish Apple offered a one-user home version for $29.99 or something. That way, from downstairs on my PowerBook, I could do things like check Entourage, Adium, or some other things on my G5 upstairs.
The tablet Mac or even a "wireless screen" would solve the problem too, but I don't think they're coming. VNC has proven to be rather unreliable. And for $299, Remote Desktop isn't an option. So… oh well.

Question: What's your favorite Jelly Belly flavor?
My Answer: Very Cherry. But really, the fact that there's so much variety is my favorite thing about Jelly Bellys.

Bah. I did a whole lot of sitting on my ass today watching golf. The third round kicked off at 8am (or rather, continued again after a delay on Saturday). Then the final round began at 2:30 and did not finish until 7:30. Phil Mickelson, phony that he is, won his second green jacket.
Tomorrow I have to vacuum before I can go golfing, so I'm off to do that now. It was supposed to be 68 on Monday, but it's only going to get to - apparently - 55 or so at most. 😛

Carey isn't comfortable using the SLR (a Canon Digital Rebel XT), so we're looking for a low-cost, small, point-and-shoot camera. I'll define low cost as $350 or less. I'll define point-and-shoot as one that ideally uses CompactFlash cards. I'll define "small" as something Carey can lug around in her purse or I can carry around in my golf bag comfortably.
I've used Nikons and Canons, and currently have the Canon DR XT, so ideally I'd like to stick with Canon or, as the first option after that, a Nikon. What are your recommendations not only for the camera, but where to buy it (my default is B&H, but if someone else is running a great deal, hey, lemme know!).

The 2006 Steelers schedule is out. The Steelers start the season early, as is (recent) tradition, with what will be a tough game against the Dolphins. Then we have 11 days off. The schedule has lots of late games this year, and one thing that will suck: Dec 3 - Dec 7 shows two games. Ouch. That will be difficult. I like that we finish up with Cleveland, Baltimore, and the Who Dey crowd in the last four weeks. I hate that our BYE week always comes so damn early. The NFL lies if they tell you BYE weeks change for teams every year. The Steelers almost always have one of the first BYE weeks.
Sep 7 Miami 8:30pm
Sep 18 @ Jacksonville 8:30pm
Sep 24 Cincinnati 1:00pm
Week 4 ---------- BYE
Oct 8 @ San Diego 8:15pm
Oct 15 Kansas City 4:15pm
Oct 22 @ Atlanta 1:00pm
Oct 29 @ Oakland 4:15pm
Nov 5 Denver 4:15pm
Nov 12 New Orleans 1:00pm
Nov 19 @ Cleveland 1:00pm
Nov 26 @ Baltimore 1:00pm
Dec 3 Tampa Bay 1:00pm
Dec 7 Cleveland 8:00pm
Dec 17 @ Carolina 1:00pm
Dec 24 Baltimore 1:00pm
Dec 31 @ Cincinnati 1:00pm
