Question: To what non-physical (people, places) things are your strongest memories tied?
My Answer: As my previous post answers: music. However, I've heard that for many people, it's a smell, a sound (non-musical), a general feeling. For some it may be the color green. I'm curious to see the answers.

Erik is listening to "One More Addiction" by Natalie Imbruglia from the album "Left of the Middle" (1997). Erik has rated this song 3.0 stars and last played this song Friday, June 27, 2003 7:10:51 PM.
Every time that song comes on I remember working for Nintendorks. I remember staying up late at night, chatting with the other Nintendorks. I remember how the lead guy (a bit childish at the time) really liked Natalie Imbruglia, and I recall defending the fact that I liked her music to Matt.
A few months ago I smelled something that reminded me of trumpet valve oil. It immediately took me back to the many years I played trumpet, sitting in my room, blaring out some piece of a song I most often didn't care for.
Music, more than anything, ties me to past events. When I hear Lightning Crashes I remember driving to a golf tournament discussing a tragic event of the time (the radio was playing a version of LC with snippets from the past few days of news read over top of the song). Every time I hear George Harrison's I've Got My Mind Set on You I think of one of my mom's aerobic teachers, whom I was certain I was going to marry. I was eight.
My memory… I don't know what I'd do if I ever lost it. That's why I take such good care of my music.

I'm hoping that someone can explain this to me: why can't the Finder handle accents properly? It can - as you can see when I'm renaming the file - but not persistently. Heck, the Terminal shows the "é" properly in "Exposé" - why can't the Finder?
Hrmph.
On an unrelated note, I very much like the new Finder. The open/save dialogs are nice, too, though I wish they'd remember that I only want to see the icons in the sidebar, not the full name. I like to use column view (in both the Finder and dialogs), and I've been able to shrink my windows by placing commonly used folders in the sidebar.

Andy sent me this picture from a vacation of his. I love it when people can't read (though I wonder somewhat why the sign is in English).
If you're interested, you too can Visit Malta.

I think Eric (the imposter) sent this to me: The Ferrett's Rules For Picking Up Chicks. The cartoon he links to is amusing, and typically not my kind of cartoon. Fap fap fap. Anyway…

I'm considering buying a copy of iRecordNow. I've just sent the authors an email asking if they'd like to trade, in fact, for a license to any Freshly Squeezed Software product. Has anyone used it? It seems rather simple (which is good) and it works with my iSight as it should. The controls could use some numeric input because they're a bit too "loose," but stretching the drawer increases the width (and thus the granularity of the slider). I dunno, I'm just rambling.
P.S. The thing comes as a package. Lame! It's just a folder with some web locations and some other documents. Give it to me as a .dmg with a drag and drop folder on it, not a .pkg.

Has the format for .term files changed in some way? In Mac OS X 10.2, you could set up a terminal window the way you'd like, hit cmd-s, and save a .term file. You could then open the file, add something to the <ExecutionString>
, and then you'd have a double-clickable "application." I used these quite heavily with Terminal Pal.
Under 10.3, I've saved some .term files, they're set to open in the terminal, and I can double-click them. Nothing happens. Terminal Pal can open the files with the terminal ([[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] openFile:... withApplication:@"Terminal"];
) but again, nothing happens.
So, what's up with that?

So, I'm going to head on over to Lake Wyman tomorrow for some fishing. I've really got no idea whether there are any fish in there, but what the heck, right? It's about two or three miles from the Boca Inlet, and it's worth a shot. The wind is really whipping around outside right now. It won't be fun to put the yak on the car tonight unless it dies down. I'm not sure what fish are in there, but my guess would be jacks, tarpon, and maybe some snook and snapper. I've got some dead fish for bait and some hooks, so I can always give that a shot, but most of the day will be spent with artificials.
I've gotta find the time to practice some flycasting… Not that Lake Wyman would be a good place to flyfish. Just that I need to practice. 🙂

I've completed (in Photoshop CS, now that I have it) a new mockup for Freshly Squeezed Software's Web site. If you're curious, click the picture to the right. This is most easily compared with the current MailDrop page.
The FSS site has received a lot of compliments over the years. Yes, it's quite true that we've borrowed many of the design principles from another well-known Mac site, but every graphic and line of code was created from scratch. Introduced in early 2002, I feel that both the site and myself have "grown up" and "grown out" just a bit and are ready to move on. Andy, Nick, and I have taken what we've learned and I've applied it to a fresh design which we only hope continues to serve as a good example of design.

Question: This is a different kind of question, because I haven't got an answer per se, but am seeking answers. The question is this: now that I've started an ITMS Shopping Cart (I'd previously used "Buy Now" exclusively), what songs should I add to the cart? Please answer by linking to albums, artists, or specific songs.
My Answer: I tend to like pop crap for doing work (music you don't have to think about), R.E.M. and Toad the Wet Sprocket type stuff for the thoughtful times, and occasionally other types of music if they offer something new or humorous. For example, the song "Area Codes" by Ludacris cracks me up, though I typically despise most rap.

Question: How often do you clip your fingernails?
My Answer: At least once a week, oftentimes two or three times. I can't stand long or even barely long nails. They hit keys as I type or otherwise bug me. I can't really scratch myself, because I have no nails, but somehow I manage to get by.

Here are a few kayak fishing shots I wanted to post - with a bit of quick commentary - before I forget that they're there. In order…
- Squinting is what I do best when staring into the sun. I think I look like a bug.
- Shark on in this one. This is the first shark (and a later shot shows it from a distane).
- Still playing with that shark in this one, just like in the above shot.
- The shark making its way towards my kayak is perhaps the one I caught later that same day.
- Not squinting as much, but a good shot with decent lighting.
- The shark I caught can be seen in this photo. You can see its head, its tailfin, and a bit of its back. It was a 3 1/2 foot shark that weighed around 30 lbs.
- Five foot alligators are nothing to sneeze at either.
I hope my Cybershot arrives soon… Scanning is going to get old really quickly.

Question: Have you ever had pineapple soda?
My Answer: Oooh, I have recently, and it's very, very good. Just a bit tart, just a bit sweet. FWIW, I'm calling it "soda" here instead of "pop" because "pineapple pop" sounds odd to me.

So apparently Paris Hilton banged Shannen Doherty's former husband, and the tape, like Pamela's several, was "misplaced." And apparently my grasp of pop culture has declined so low that I'm only now hearing about this today? Of course, the amount that I care has also reached new lows.
Update: I'm not Paris Hilton. To the dummies in the comments who don't seem to realize that, please…
