Says one open source guy: The reason Open source is better, and walks the moral high ground is because we don't demand money for our work just that if you make our product better, you push it back out so that everyone benefits. We help each other, not fight each other. We know that you […]

Holy crap! EditCSS is freakin' awesome! Wowee. I wish only that I could have it in a separate window (or tie it to another text editor like BBEdit), but if that ain't just the definition of looking a gift horse in the mouth I don't know what is. Wow.

This post on Thunderbird's icons led me to this screenshot which led me to wonder whether I needed to buy Entourage 2004 (probably as part of the student/teacher edition). I downloaded the latest version and gave it a try. It lasted all of five minutes. I won't go into the details, but suffice to say […]

There's something perverse about cranking up Unreal Tournament 2004 without quitting any other applications or turning off your email-checking schedules (or iChat/Adium), playing a 1920 x 1200 game with the highest settings, and wondering if there's any way to slow the framerate down so that you can see what's going on just a little better. […]

From MacCentral: The computer is now too full of itself," said [Rob Schoeben, Apple's vice president of Applications Marketing]. "It needs to be about the end customer and the desire to make art or produce a project. We live in that community; we've served that community for a long time and we get it. We […]

Are there any WebObjects developers in South Florida? Are there any available WebObjects developers in South Florida? I can't say much about the possible plans right now, but needless to say from what I've written above, I'm putting out a feeler right now to see if there's anyone around. I may need them soon (in […]

It's funny how everyone gets this one wrong. The latest to do so is Rick Ross, who writes: Microsoft is shrewd and successful at using what is tantamount to "petty cash" for the monopolist to make its problems go away. I have noticed people pointing to the investment Microsoft made in Apple some years ago […]

Awhile ago I helped Judi with a vCard/PHP problem. Someone requested the source code, so here it is as a web app (the email goes nowhere, so don't send use this) and as source code. The trick is a very simple one: vCards are just plain text with some specialized formatting. I've used this same […]

Wowee! You can purchase 51 live not-available-in-stores songs (over 7 hours of music) from Widespread Panic's sold-out year-end concert for only $14.99! Awesome! My (more-than-) friend Kate in Georgia is a huge WSP fan. I picked up every one of these songs for myself, and for her as well. That reminds me: I should call […]

Please help. A friend of mine has 18 JPEGs and TIFFs (he can convert them to any format) that total 277 MB. He needs to burn a CD (on a Mac) that has the images in the highest quality possible. That's easy. Where I need help: he needs a picture viewer that works with Windows. […]

You know, my birthday is coming up. I've been quite happy with the audio system in my car. I just wish it had a line-in. I'm going with the faux-cassette-tape solution right now. I've avoided the FM tuners. The iPod almost never leaves my car except to come sync with the computer now and then.

Looking for a bigger idiot than Robert Scoble*? Look no further than Paul Thurrott who, unlike Scoble, actually is an idiot. The comments here don't make him an idiot, but they're easily poked with sticks: Although iTunes integrates easily with the award-winning iPod, it doesn't support any of the hundreds of other portable audio players […]

While it's true that any CEO, at his core, needs your money to survive, it always strikes me that this is Michael Dell's only concern any time he gives an interview. Read this interview. Read it twice. Count how many times a price is mentioned. Count how many times market share is mentioned. Count how […]

I am so sick of morons (especially those named "Scoble"): When you hear DRM think "lockin." So, when you buy music off of Napster or Apple's iTunes, you're locked into the DRM systems that those applications decided on. Really you are choosing between two competing lockin schemes. But, not all lockin schemes are alike, I […]
