My Answer: Finding new spaces to put things.

QotD: Moving Dread

Question: What's your least favorite thing about moving?

My Answer: Packing and carrying. The aches, the hassle, the dust, the weight, the sore muscles… ugh!

QotD: Happiness

Question: Have you ever told a friend that you seriously question whether he or she is happy or not?

My Answer: Uhhh, yep. One of those times was recent enough that I am not sure how the outcome will be, but The friend is a good person and I think the friend's life will be taking a turn for the better soon.

QotD: Pillows

Question: How do you like your pillows?

My Answer: Large, thick, and firm. Hmmm, that doesn't quite sound like I'm describing pillows, and neither does "I like pillows that have some meat to them," but that's how I like my pillows. I have TempurPedic pillows right now that work really well.

Kevin Fox Kicks Butt

Kevin Fox kicks serious butt. He knows why (and to him, Carey and I both say THANK YOU).

As a completely horrible way to say thanks, I've spent entirely too much time doing the same LiveJournal meme he posted here.

QotD: Mexican

Question: Do you eat Mexican food? If so, what's your favorite?

My Answer: I only really eat tacos. And even then, just with cheese and meat. I don't care if it's spicy - sometimes that's good - and rice isn't bad, and beans are sometimes okay, but lettuce, tomatoes, etc. are no good. Booo! 🙂

Seth and I went to Chipotles here, and unlike Taco Bell or the "do it yourself at home" kind of tacos, I had stringy beef (kinda like pulled pork, but it was beef) with some spicy cheese. It had some hot sauce already mixed in. Mmmm. It was good.

QotD: Movie Theaters

Question: What do you think is the single biggest problem with the movie theaters?

My Answer: My thoughts mirror those of Mark Cuban (he writes here). I think that the theater and movie experience needs to adapt, and it has not yet. I wait for movies to go to the dollar theater because the experience is nearly as good. I'm not offered any discount if I buy the DVD after seeing the movie in a "regular price" theater. Staying home and watching an old DVD, waiting for the movie to cost a buck is my modus operandi until things change. Only on rare occasions have I ventured to the $9 theater.

The customers have a list of demands, and they're not all as simple as "cheaper popcorn." Will the theaters listen? Can they do anything about it?

At The Memorial in Columbus, OH

I'm in Columbus, OH through at least Friday covering The Memorial Tournament for The Sand Trap.

Today, I saw Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus hit a ball to two feet, Vijay Singh hit a ball to one foot, and an amateur beat them all. Good times!

Check out my coverage (and a lot of pictures) here.

Batch Lowercase on the Mac OS X CLI

In a bash prompt:

for filename in * # Traverse all files in directory.
do
   fname=`basename $filename`
   n=`echo $fname | tr A-Z a-z`  # Change name to lowercase.
   if [ "$fname" != "$n" ]       # Rename only files not already lowercase.
   then
     mv $fname $n
   fi
done

Thanks, Aaron.

My Wedding, My House, and My Honeymoon

Carey and I were married on Friday, May 27, 2005. It was a small ceremony behind the district justice's office (the outgoing Frank Abate), next to a playground and near to some trees that "everyone picks." It cost all of $33.50, bringing our total spending for "the wedding" to a whopping $78.50. If you want to get married on the cheap, well, there you go. It can be done.

The thing for Carey and I is not that we didn't have a huge wedding. As I've mentioned before, she had that before and it did nothing for her in the end - she got divorced. I'm just happy to be marrying my best friend - I don't care much about the ceremony. I've heard before that a relationship is all about two people until they get engaged - then it's all about the families and friends. The couple getting married often gets lost in the shuffle.

QotD: Famous People

Question: Who is the most famous person with whom you've ever spoken?

My Answer: Steve Jobs. The CEO with whom I spoke a few weeks ago is a close second.

QotD: Memorial

Question: How do you celebrate Memorial Day?

My Answer: I typically don't. This year I'll be celebrating with Carey's family, though. It'll be kinda nifty to do the traditional picnic thing. The weather is certainly nice enough for it.

QotD: Bike

Question: Do you own a bike? What kind?

My Answer: I do. It's a black and yellow GT… something. It was the last one off the production line and a very popular model. OK, I'm going to the car to look… It's a GT Rebound. Bought it in 2000 or so, IIRC. Paid at least $400, though I think that was with an employee discount (Ron).

This question may seem strange or dumb or whatever, but it's simply being used to mark a date in my life. Today we're going to get Carey a bike - hers is horrible - and take our first bike ride as a married couple. I'll write more about the weekend we've had later, but for now, to get back to updating my blog, this will suffice.

QotD: Gummi Bears

Question: How do you eat Gummi Bears?

My Answer: I eat the colors I don't like first (yellow, white) then move into the indifferent ones (green), then finish with orange and finally red. Sometimes I bite the heads off. Sometimes I bite the heads off and stick them on the bodies of other colors.

QotD: Steak

Question: If you're in the mood for a good steak (and can't cook one yourself), to which restaurant do you head?

My Answer: Texas Roadhouse or Outback. There are a few differences between the two, but Outback is certainly more expensive.
