QotD: Gas Station

Question: At the gas station, do you pay inside or outside? Cash or credit?

My Answer: Outside and with a credit card. I really, really dislike gas stations with broken handles. I like to squeeze the pump handle, lock it in place, and clean my windshields. Pumps with broken handle locks suck. Regardless, pay at the pump with credit.

QotD: PLIST

Question: Are you down with .plists going binary in 10.4?

My Answer: Not really. I use(d) BBEdit and some CLI tools to edit .plist files in 10.2.x and 10.3.x. Now, what, PList Editor?

QotD: Vacation ’05

Question: Are you going on vacation this year? If so, to where and with whom? When?

My Answer: Nope. I'm travelling now, and then Carey and I will have house responsibilities. Happy happy fun joy! 🙂 Next year we'll probably go on a small vacation, though.

QotD: Tattoo

Question: Do you have a tattoo? If not, do you think you'll ever get one?

My Answer: No and no. I don't find them particularly attractive on women, either. In southern Florida, just about every woman under the age of 30 has a tattoo just above her ass. So much for being unique…

QotD: Gaming

Question: Do you play console (PS2, XBox, GameCube, etc.) games anymore? How frequently?

My Answer: Not really. About two hours in the past three months. I've had other things on my mind, I admit, but still…

Getting Married on Friday

Carey and I have set a date for our wedding: Friday, May 27, 2005. I was born on March 23, 1978 and she on October 27, 1977, so have at it numerology freaks. 😉

We'll be married by a soon-to-be retired district justice (people only seem to refer to them as "JP"s or "Justices of the Peace" when you're talking about getting married) in our childhood hometown. Earlier in the day, we'll have closed on our house and gone to JC Penney's to get some very simple wedding-day photos taken.

Church, Star Wars, and Softball

Yesterday I spent some time with my friend Ron. It seems I'm going to be playing on his church softball league this year.

To play on the team, I'll have to attend at least two church ceremonies per month. It's been a decade and a half since I've attended church with any regularity. I'm still not certain a "God" per se exists, but it will be interesting to see what this church says of things. I'm looking forward to going.

Before practice yesterday, I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and bought some equipment: a Mizuno glove, a Mizuno bat, and some Reebok shoes. I got pretty much the cheapest I could find in each (quiet, Ron!). Dick's had a "Miken" bat for $300! Now, I understand $400 for a driver (golf), but a bat is just a bat. They're all the same shapes, and the materials aren't as complex as they are in golf. $300? For a bat? Whatever…

Extra Tickets for Golf Events

I have some extra tickets for the Senior PGA tournament in Ligonier, PA (this coming week, Monday to Sunday, May 23-29) as well as some extra tickets to next week's Memorial in Columbus, OH. Hale Irwin and Ernie Els are the defending champions, and both will surely be grand events.

If you're interested in going to either of these tournaments, please read on…

Don Yacktman’s Blog

Don Yacktman, long-time NeXTie and now Mac OS X developer, now has a blog. One of his first posts is rather intriguing.

It's good to see someone like Don blogging more. And it looks as though he's got some things going on that may increase the likelihood that he'll continue to blog. Very cool.

QotD: Cartoon

Question: What's your favorite cartoon?

My Answer: The Family Guy is pretty high on the list, but The Simpsons still wins out in the end.

AdSense Back Again (Until I Get Sick of It)

I'm once again trying AdSense. Not so much for the people that visit regularly - I've tried to tuck them in such a place that you can easily skip them when moving down to the comments section - but more for the people that come here via search terms and aren't quite sure where to go. If it makes $5/month, that's $5/month I wouldn't have otherwise.

But hey, if you feel like clicking an ad now and then, I'd appreciate it.

Mail’s Ugly Icons

I set my parents up last night with Mail on their new Mac. Previously, they'd been using a shared Entourage database between users. It worked well, except that sometimes my dad would delete or mark mail as read when there was no reason to do so, and my mom wouldn't see it. Years ago I set them up with their own @barzeski.com domains, so now I imported the few emails they'd saved and they each have their own Mail account now.

It's hard to appreciate how truly ugly those new Mail toolbar buttons are until you see them in person. UGH!

QotD: World Trade Towers

Question: Do you support the single "Freedom Tower" or Trump's "rebuild 'em better, stronger, and a foot taller" approach to building on the grounds of the World Trace Center towers?

My Answer: I'm putting in with The Donald. Just make sure the elevator shafts can't be used to completely topple the entire towers. Maybe even build in a missile defense system. If it occasionally takes down a wayward news helicopter, so be it. 😛

QotD: Interview

Question: What's the longest interview process through which you've gone?

My Answer: Two interviews, each about 30-45 minutes in length. I'm staring at one now that may include six interviews (one of which is a full 8-hour work day "trial").

QotD: Wireless

Question: How important is an Internet connection in your hotel room to you when travelling?

My Answer: Very important. The wireless Internet provided at the Hampton Inn was down until about 11pm yesterday, so I had to kill 90 minutes at Pizza Hut. When it came back it was still quite slow.
