I'm still looking for a few writers for a golf blog. Interested people should meet the following criteria:
- Love golf
- Contribute 4-5 pieces/week. Quickie news stories take five minutes, after all.
That's it. Of course, there are bonuses for other things like "writes well" and "has a sense of humor" or "knows a little bit of HTML." Writers get their own email address and will share in the successes (however great or small) as we go along.
The site's design is being worked on and will be available in the next week or two. I'm giving Erica a crack at it. I'm quite sure she'll nail it.

I'd really like to eat some ice cream right now, but alas: I have none. This is the true problem with hurricanes: they knock out power and then you can't get milk, ice cream, butter, and eggs for days on end. Woe is me! 😀

Well, the first game of the NFL season and I forgot that it was Sunday. Consequently, my NFL Sunday Pass from DirecTV didn't do me a lick of good.
Here's ESPN's box score. Bettis had a total of one yard rushing for… three touchdowns. Staley contributed a solid 91 yards with 3.8 ypa, and Maddox was a "Steelers of Old" 13 of 22 for 142 yards.
Oakland is a good team, and this victory is a sign of good things.

Question: If you were to design your own electoral college, how would it be designed?
My Answer: I don't like that the views of Californians (55) are 1375% as important as those of people living in Maine. I think that there's a great disparity. I don't think that DC should have its own three votes. I'd drop every state's electoral votes by three - the smallest number of any state - and then raise them all twenty (or just add 17 to everyone, yes). This would give CA 72 and a state like Maine 21, a difference of only 343%. Elections are too easily monopolized by the "big states" - New York, Florida, Texas, and California. Does the color of the states of Maine, Vermont, Delaware, Montana, Alaska, or Hawaii matter? No. Not really.
Scholars have debated this, so I'm hardly some kind of expert. It just seems a little skewed to me that the opinions of Californians (of which, yes, there are many more) matter 1375% as much as those "Mainians." (What are people from Maine called?)

Anyone want to buy pretty nifty scooter? Here's the eBay listing (it will appear at 6:00pm EDT). You can see a gallery of images here.
The scooter sells new for $2200. $1250 is fair, but I'd go as low as $750. Is anyone in the southern Florida area interested? It's got < 700km on it, was just given a thorough cleaning and maintenance, and gets 100 miles to the gallon. It's in great shape.
I'm selling it because I'm moving, and its sale will pay for the moving truck. Plus, it's quite difficult to ride a scooter in the snow. 🙂

CVS works fine from Xcode, but it throws this error all the time:
cvs update: inflate: unknown compression method
cvs [update aborted]: reading from server: Input/output error
What's up with that? I can use CVS from the CLI without this error. I'm using the stock CVS, and other people working on my project don't get this error.
I haven't found an answer on Google or any of the mailing lists.

Are "Services" (that menu in your Mac OS X app) as annoying to everyone else as they are to me? Jeez. I've got about a billion things in there, and each of them seem to fight over keyboard shortcuts. I want about five or six things in there. There seem to be ways to add stuff to the Services menu, but no way to trim what's already there. What's up with that?
Services, at the moment, suck. Rather, to be more correct, the management of services sucks. What management you ask? Exactly.

I've got a new metal-beveled 23" Cinema display now, replacing my old plastic one. Everyone I talk to says the same thing: it's far less impressive than the older, plastic-rimmed ones. People in Apple stores commonly think that the 23" display is the 20" display.
It just looks smaller.
It's still mighty impressive, but I miss the ADC connector. Already there's clutter, clutter, clutter what with the external power supply, the three little cords taking up slots in the back of my display, and so on. Now my firewire and ethernet hubs are plugged into my display!? Whatever…
And it sure looks smaller.

Question: What, if anything, are you doing today in honor of 9/11.
My Answer: I'm going to live my life. I think that the biggest thing we can do to stick it to those who oppose our way of life is to live our way of life.

Question: What's your favorite trilogy?
My Answer: Tomorrow, Andy and I are going to watch Die Hard, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, and Die Hard With a Vengeance. Right now I can't think of a better trilogy. Star Wars doesn't win. The Lord of the Rings doesn't win. Most of the others that could beat it aren't trilogies (any three Bond movies, etc.).

Yay!
And into PulpFiction they go… with their own label and a folder into which they will be filtered.

Is it possible? The only options I see are "Publish" and "Draft." Where's "Future?"
Hrm…

I believe that our icon designer has gone missing, and so we (FSS) are in need of an icon designer. If you know of one, are one, etc. and would like some work, by all means leave a comment or get in touch with me directly.
We're currently seeking icons for MailDrop 2.0 and FTPeel 2.0.

The only comments I delete are those that are:
- Comment spam. We all know what this is.
- Offensive, degrading, lies, etc.
- Horribly malformed comments that mess up the display of my site.*
That doesn't seem to be the case with Gabe, who seems to simply delete comments that disagree with him.
I forget my original comment, but it had to do with pointing out that Dick Cheney did not make a threat, but simply said that John Kerry may not be as stringent in the fight against terrorists - letting them rebuild and attack again - than the current occupants of the West Wing. The "devastating hit" would be backing down from the current war, showing a lack of resolve on our part to the rest of the world. Perhaps. Or maybe not. But Cheney's comment could only be taken the way Gabe took it if you are the type to worship "Fahrenheit 9/11" as The Gospel.

From an article on Wired:
If Deng (Xiaoping) were still around today, he'd be using a Mac.
I'd take him over John Kerry, I think. 🙂
