iPhone Pic: Man Beneath

Man Beneath

Got a Coin from Poland

I just recently purchased a coin from Poland: a 1995 2 Zlote coin. It's a two-tone deal and it'll make a pretty nifty ball maker (when playing golf).

The coin came from Uruguay and took almost three weeks to arrive, but I'm happy to have it. 1995 was my best competitive year, and given that I'm half Polish and like two-tone coins, so it's three for three!

iPhone App Updating

I hate, hate, hate that when you update an app on the iPhone, the location (on the screen and within the "pages") isn't preserved.

I'm ten times as annoyed by that as the fact that I can't separate items. What If I want two rows, a blank row, and then a fourth row at the bottom? Impossible.

Commitments

Public Service Announcement: If you make a commitment to participate in something that's taken the organizer several months to put together, do not cancel two weeks ahead of time.

Lake View: Today and Tomorrow

Alan and I played Lake View Country Club earlier today. For as great as the conditioning is this year (and it's in incredible shape), the club's financial situation is not so great.

Fortunately, a committee has taken some initiative, and though the plan they've proposed isn't for me, I'm hopeful that enough members sign on that the club can return to a strong (or at least not dire) financial situation.

Even still, this will probably be my last year at Lake View, but some of that depends on Whispering Woods. If WW offers $2200 for a membership with a cart, I'm gone in a heartbeat (though as the guy who maintains their web site, I'll likely have some sort of playing privileges there).

The Wire

Any other fans of The Wire out there? I kind of "got through" the first season, and wasn't even sure I'd like it, but now I've gone through the second and have started in on the third and it's grown on me.

Flipbook

My friend Josh has created an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch: Flipbook. True to the name, Flipbook allows you to create your very own flipbooks on your iP*, play them back, and share them online. You can view a random flipbook, for example.

$9.99 in the iTunes App Store.

Dog Vomit Slime Mold

Yesterday while mowing the lawn, I noticed a powdery looking "fungus" type grown on some of the mulch in my back yard. The "fungus" was bright yellow but, at the time, only dusted the ground, as if someone had spilled some of that granular popcorn butter. I looked at it, but didn't think much of it. It's right near where Carey throws out some old food occasionally (for the birds), so I thought perhaps a bright little fungus had sprung up. Having seen far too many episodes of House, however, I did call Carey to tell her that if I became deathly ill in the next few days, it was likely due to this bright yellow fungus in the back yard. 😛

Six hours later it was dark, but I decided to check out the fungus. HOLY COW! The thing was suddenly puffy and about twice the size that it was before!

Achieving Flickr Success

My quick thoughts on Thomas Hawk's list:

1. Take great pictures. Duh. Though for awhile, this could have read "Take HDR pictures."
2. The order that you post matters. Good point.
3. Consider places outside of Flickr. Okay, but that's more about achieving overall success, isn't it? Success begets success though.
4. Configure Flickr settings for maximum exposure. Good point.
5. Explore. Uhm, okay.
6. Groups. Sure. Makes sense.
7. Tag for exploration. I hate tags. I think, however, I'm the only person in the world who doesn't really use them much. I don't use them here on my blog anyway.
8. Geotag. Bah, currently too much effort.
9. Create best-of sets. I would probably need more than about four pictures on Flickr before I did that, but yeah, good thinking. If I've posted it to Flickr, currently, I already consider it a "best of." Actually, it's a "best of AND I remembered to post something to Flickr for the first time in a year and a half."
10. Tell everyone you know about your Flirckrstream. OK. Mine's here.

When Mini Golf Sucks

Feel free to complete this sentence in the comments: Mini golf sucks when ____________.

Some possible answers of mine:

  • Someone takes it way too seriously ((And coming from a guy who usually brings his own putter, that's saying something.)).
  • The supplied putters are absolutely terrible.
  • The holes are raised up, rejecting anything that isn't dead center.
  • There's any appreciable slope around the hole that makes the ball break six inches sideways on a six-inch putt.
  • The balls are rubber.
  • The eight-member family won't let you and your kid play through. And they watch every one of their eight members play the entire hole before the next one starts.
  • It costs $5 or more.

Golf Weekend

Next weekend, 90 holes of golf in 2½ days. Hopefully the weather holds up. Current schedule is as follows:

Thursday, July 31
	- 8:00pm - Buddy arrives
Friday, August 1
	- 6:00am - Leave home, get food on way
	- 8:10am - Kennsington
	- 3:12pm - Lake View
Saturday, August 2
	- 8:30am - Fowler's Mill
	- 3:00pm - Little Mountain
Sunday, August 3
	- 8:50am - Whispering Woods
	- 2:45pm - Buddy leaves for CLE

Woohoo!

Crocs

Crocs cost $30? I just picked up two pair - fortunately with a good coupon at Dick's - and was amazed that they normally sell for $29.99. I've heard only good things though, so we'll see. Black XL and a small pair of blue ones, kid's choice. 🙂

iDisk Acting Funky

I keep my Scorecard database and license on my iDisk. I then alias the "Scorecard" folder to Application Support. I also export my rounds (HTML) to the "Web" folder on my iDisk so that they are automatically synchronized to my Mobile Me account (see them here).

This setup worked beautifully in the .Mac days. Back then I was still using the "Sites" folder (which pointed at homepage.mac.com/iacas/ instead of web.me.com/iacas/).

Since .Mac became MobileMe, the process has become slow, slow, slow.

WordPress iPhone App

Just a quick test of the iPhone WordPress app. Not too bad, but I still don't see myself blogging on the go very much.

The app also froze up on me for a long time when I tried to correct a typo ("ok the go" instead of "on the go") the second time. I'm on a WiFi network, too.

Two Inches of Rain in 30 Minutes

Wonder what that looks like? Oh, about like this:
