Question: If you could change one thing about Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4, what would it be and why?
My Answer: I'd elevate Services. It's a geeky thing I know, but I'd let people manage their services, turning some off and giving some keyboard shortcuts (or removing the predetermined ones). I'd also let users create quickie shell scripts and allow those to be services - for example, I have a "dict" shell script that looks up a definition. Calculator services are nice, but not in the cluttered menu we have now. Service Manager is nice, but it'd be nicer still if I could tell it to ignore all the services being offered by my second HD (which is cloned nightly).

From zorblog comes this news:
As many fast-food chains introduce healthier fare amid fears of being sued, Hardee's is serving up a hamburger with 1,420 calories and 107 grams of fat.
St. Louis-based Hardee's Food Systems Inc. on Monday rolled out its Monster Thickburger — two 1/3-pound slabs of Angus beef, four strips of bacon, three slices of cheese, and mayonnaise on a buttered sesame seed bun. The sandwich alone sells for $5.49, $7.09 with fries and a soda.
Have Hardee's executives been reading Dilbert lately? It's no shard-filled donut, but the idea is too similar to have been coindidence, no?

Heh, this made me laugh:
For instance: "Kerry was both 'cranky' and more indecisive than he was portrayed by the media." Well, Newsweek's Evan Thomas did say that positive press coverage spotted Kerry 15 extra points; and now we know why: the journalists totally held back on the extent of Kerry's crankiness and indecision. Fucking liberal media. Also, newsflash: "Teresa Kerry was a major 'distraction.'" Oh, and then there's this startling revelation: Kerry "never did learn how to deliver a speech."
"Indecisive" seems to be a nice way of putting it.

Someone's been TrackBacking my blog, but not doing so properly. They do so via Haloscan (which, last I checked, was a third-party way to have comments on your blog).

I must admit that i'm quite impressed by MacOSX features and capabilities. At leaat with Panther.
No idea what to do about that. The URL doesn't really go anywhere that makes any sense.

Carey and I may soon become country club members. Lake View Country Club in my hometown of North East - my home course during my high school years - has a special on end-of-year memberships. Needless to say, we're interested.
I'm particularly interested given the, uhhh, quality of their web site. It's poor, and I hope to work something out whereby I redo their site, update it, add features, and so on in exchange for a discount or free membership.
Lake View Country Club is, bar none, the best course in northwestern PA. I haven't played them all, but Erie is home to three of the region's best (the other two being Kahkwa and Lake Shore). I studied golf course architecture as a kid, and this course will withstand the test of time for quite awhile. At 6700 from the tips, the course isn't short, but it offers up a mean test that keeps the driver in the bag quite frequently for longer players. Slick greens, slanted fairways, and elevation changes keep players on their toes. I'll write more about each hole below.

We (FSS) are looking to sell three applications. If you're interested in purchasing the source to iWipe, Booklet, or Rock Star - contact me privately. AIM is the best way (iacas).
Here's a nice review of Rock Star.

Despite a pre-game mix-up that resulted in ejections for Joey Porter and William Green, the Steelers defense once again played superbly, shutting down a Cleveland Browns team that's heading in the wrong direction. The Browns managed to score only after a massive kick return to the 19-yard line and once when the Steelers put in second- and third-stringers late in the game. The Steelers put up 27 points (it should have been 31 - Bettis scored from the 1-yard line, but Cowher didn't challenge the play, and the field goal snap was bad resulting in a miss).
The week started off with Gerard Warren's dumbass comments about going after Ben Roethlisberger's head. In what could have been a letdown week, that comment alone fired the Steelers up to take down the Girl Scouts Brownies.

Question: Excluding things like DVD-of-the-month, Columbia House, or "savings" memberships, how many memberships (gym, country club, etc.) do you have?
My Answer: None, currently. Though that number may experience a slight uptick soon…

An excellent piece about the blithering dolt and longtime NSLog(); nemesis Robert Scoble can be found here.
Robert, you're working for the company that raised "We rule, burn the heretics" to an art form. Oh IBM started it, and Apple may have dabbled with it a bit, but Microsoft, oh god, Microsoft has made Us vs. Them into their own personal playground. Their disinformation campaign against the iTMS and the iPod is only the latest example. To be a Microsoft evangelist and wonder "Why can't we all just get along" is doublethink writ large.
An entertaining read to say the least.

Question: Do you own a DV camera?
My Answer: Yes. I own a little Sony (a DCR-PC101). Works great… when I remember to use it.

My friend Dave sent me an article called "Lock and Load" from the NY Times (username: macnn, pass: macnn if you can't log in). It's pretty silly, but I haven't written about guns in awhile, and so here's a chance.
Nothing kills Democratic candidates' prospects more than guns. If it weren't for guns, President-elect Kerry might now be conferring with incoming Senate Majority Leader Daschle.
The American public isn't stupid. If you've got a "gun control" position as Kerry clearly does, you can't pose in a field with a shotgun that'd be against a law he wanted to pass. You just can't. People will call you on it. Better to just ignore it and not be defeated as Gore was than to rile up the people with false claims.

Several of our customers have asked us for place to put bookmarklets within PulpFiction. Bookmarklets are just chunks of JavaScript, and we've already got a place in which javascripts can run: the bottom pane where you read articles!
In response to these custoers, I've added del.icio.us support to PulpFiction's default template and posted it in the PulpFiction Resources section under "Stylesheets." Have a look or read on for a very quick tutorial that will allow you to add the del.icio.us links to your own favorite stylesheet.
