This is about right:
My blog, my rules.
Same here. I try to be fair, and I have no problems with opposing viewpoints, but if you're a jackass and abuse privileges, I might yank your comment or block your IP (or whatever).

Hi. I am blogging from the Dohi (IHOP spun 180 degrees). I'm blogging from my HipTop. Just seeing how long this took. About five minutes, start to finish. Not bad.

Cabel and Steven have a little page up with photos of all most of the people who got a t-shirt at MacWorld Expo San Francisco 2003. Check it out.
I spotted Phil Schiller! I spotted a few other "famous" folks too. But hey, let's have some fun with it: who can you find and name? Post in the comments.
Incidentally, Panic folks, I still want a shirt. I asked politely. 😛 XL with the spinny cursor like the Schillster. I'd pay for it, too. Steven? Cabel? Help out a fellow Mac software developer?

I had an absolutely fabulous* time with an absolutely fabulous* dame last night. I guess Friday is the next time we'll get to hang out. The girl's a keeper, friend or otherwise, because she likes steak. 🙂 Mmmmmm. We went to see Chicago, hung out here at the apartment, ate some ice cream, and talked. A visit to Denny's got thrown in there somewhere as well.

Gizmodo notes the release of the world's thinnest GSM phone. From a company named Haier, the phone is just 12.9mm (about 0.511417326 inches). The P5 doubles as a voice recorder, and the photo to the right is a fake: it doesn't have a color screen. More false advertising! Well, it's not a real ad. Wait, didn't I just go through that?
I'm a big fan of form following function (I own an Aztek for crissakes), so I'm not sure this phone really fits that bill. I'll stick with my Motorola v60, thankyouverymuch. Not that I expect any cool phones to come to the US… how many BlueTooth phones do we have? Two?
It's pretty thin. I wonder if it vibrates…

A Puma representative named Pete (I won't post his last name) from Boston phoned me this morning and asked me to take down the image I formerly had posted to my entry entitled "More on that Vodka Ad." Pete denied that the ad was an official Puma ad or that it was running in Maxim Brazil, and though I argued for fair used briefly (i.e. I mentioned that I felt showing the ad fell under fair use), he told me that their logo, which is trademarked, supercedes or rules out the possibility of fair use. Pete - if you're reading this and I've got something wrong in the transcription, let me know.
I really don't see the need to perpetuate a lie, and Pete told me the advertisement is not authentic, so I've removed the image. Pete said that the ads were creating negative publicity, and the lawyers wanted them taken down. I asked Pete to email me, for no real reason, and received this "official" response:
PUMA AG Statement regarding unauthorized "bad taste advertisement":
It has been brought to our attention that several unauthorized, sexually suggestive advertisements portraying the PUMA brand have been released over the Internet. We are appalled that images like these would be created and distributed under the PUMA name. As a brand, we seek to take a unique perspective toward our advertising in an effort to challenge the boundaries of our industry; however we would never consider using these tactics. We are in the process of researching the circumstances and reserve any legal steps available.
Fair enough. He was polite to call and was polite on the phone. Image removed.

Saw this article today and it points out that Bush Jr. and Sr. have different points of view.
In an ominous warning for his son, Mr Bush Sr said that he would have been able to achieve nothing if he had jeopardised future relations by ignoring the UN. "The Madrid conference would never have happened if the international coalition that fought together in Desert Storm had exceeded the UN mandate and gone on its own into Baghdad after Saddam and his forces."
I'm not terribly political, but I saw elsewhere that another diplomat resigned and it's somewhat comforting that Shrub Sr. is urging some more caution.

Well okay, it's called Programming Mac OS X: A Guide for UNIX Developers, and I wonder if it's any good. I come from the Mac side of things, but at the same time, as someone who's been doing Web development for a decade or three (okay, maybe just one), I know a teensy bit of Unix too.
Incidentally, I type "Unix" and not "UNIX." GNU's home page says "Unix" too. Then again, it's "not." The FreeBSD folks say "UNIX." Whatever…

Yesterday when I came home from some work I saw the tree near my apartment in bloom, and for once I thought to get my camera. I snapped the picture to the right (click for a slightly bigger version) and some other ones.
Then I used PixelNhance (no longer available - did Apple hire these chaps for iPhoto 3?) to fool with some of the pictures a little, improving their balance, saturation, sharpness, etc. as I always do. I always find it interesting to see what going to the extremes (above) does. Fun for hours!
Incidentally, the tree in the photo (another photo here) is the Yellow Elder, the national tree of the Bahamas. I wonder what their national "weed" is… Oh wait, that's Jamaica, mon.

Anyone with half a brain realizes that KHTML is a rendering engine, not a UI framework, but far be it from the less intelligent to figure that out…
I think it's interesting that people are freaking out about Safari not having a tabbed interface. Tabbed browsing most probably *will* eventually make it into the Safari codebase. It has already been implemented in the khtml source tree and Konqueror as of version 3.1. Apple took their snapshot from KDE version 3.0.2 for Safari so, it was not yet implemented. Once the Safari changes are merged back into the khtml source tree, undoubtedly Apple will begin working with a fresh snapshot of khtml - which will include tabbed browsing. That is, of course, unless Apple's Safari team develops tabbed browsing on their own. OR - if Jobs kills it for some stupid reason.
I award the person who said the above an honorary Bah, though I encourage Matt to come up with a "You are a Fucking Idiot" award. Then, every year we could have the YAAFIs.

My ex-girlfriend* owes me $900. Today, while using iChat to talk to someone with a .Mac account (I typically use Adium, which can't see .Mac users), she popped online. I haven't spoken to her since shortly after I lent her $900 (about two years ago).
I wonder if she'll pay me back. I IMed her (thus, "chatted" and not "spoke") the last time and asked for her address so that I could send back one of her books, hoping she'd remember to send me the money she owes me. $900 is nearly a full month's rent, so while I'm not one to quibble over a few bucks, well, $900 is hardly "a few bucks."
So anyway, perhaps the next time she comes on, I'll just give her the URL to this post. So, if you're my ex-girlfriend and you're reading this: could I please have my $900? That's without interest 🙂
* Yes, "girlfriend" is singular. I don't consider Crystal, Crystal, Kate, or Melinda to have been girlfriends.

Got this email at my Sound Set Central email address (a site which has Sound Sets for Entourage, AIM, the Finder, etc.):
Hi,
Your server sucks! I have been trying to download a lousy driver for my epson 1660 scanner and every damn time I go through the tediously slow process to get the driver, it never downloads. Please e-mail the driver to me.
My reply:
Your mind sucks. I have been trying to host a lousy site which offers no drivers for no scanners and every damn time someone sends me mail by the tediously slow process of email to get the drivers I don't have, I have to write them and tell them the're an idiot. Please email your deity/deities of choice and ask him/her/it/them for help instead.

Ben Hammersley notes here that he's trying to get some macros (Update: see first comment from Ben) working for his blog. Ignoring the fact that his blog is in UTF-8 and his page specifies "content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1," I must question the usefulness of macros when blogging.
