BBEdit needs auto-complete. You know how many times in a day I type <a href="/products/pulpfiction/resources/"? Too many. Especially when I'm editing a list and the only difference in each item is what follows that last "/" and the thing in title="". If BBEdit 7.5 had nothing more than a solid auto-complete implementation, I'd buy it.

Question: Are you running a local mail server?
My Answer: No. I tried turning it on, and then I created a new account in Entourage, but it never connects and instead gives me errors. I'll look into it more when I'm not as tired as I am right now. "mail" on the CLI gives me 1350 messages I have to check. Hmmm.

In addition to starting his own blog, my pal Josh has also released his iPhoto to Keynote iPhoto plugin for all of $10. I've used it a few times already and it works very smoothly. I do wonder where Keynote 2.0 is… but then again, I'm anxious little consumer who buys Apple software regardless of whether he'll use it or not. Speaking of which, is it summer yet?

I went to get the last bowl's worth of ice cream out of a carton today (one of those round Edy's cartons) and the idea struck me: ice cream should be separated like a roll of Life Savers. Thin pieces of paper or something could separate sections of ice cream, and in fact the entire box or carton could come apart pretty easily. Sure, it'd be a little odd eating a disc of ice cream, but I'd get over it. After all, I wouldn't have to reach down into a tub and scoop anymore.

Question: Do you have (use) virtual desktops?
My Answer: No. Though I feel I sometimes waste a little more space on my 23" display, I usually just hide apps I don't care about and get them back with LaunchBar, the dock, or cmd-tab. Plus, with Exposé (which I rarely, rarely, rarely use), clutter is more manageable anyway.

Hype is a funny thing.
I've been reading the blog(s) of the authors of Freshly Squeezed and from the amount of hype they've been generating you'd think this software was the second coming.
We did? I posted some screenshots. I posted a little PulpFiction Lite tease (a product that is the direct result of the comments left on another entry here). I posted some icons. I posted an "okay, well, we sent it to some advance testers, and it'll be out in a week" types of things.
We built hype? I'm genuinely surprised. I don't think we did. If we did I'd sure like to know how, because I'm sure my skills would come in handy in Hollywood or as a sports agent, right? 😉 This blog is not a finely-tuned hype machine. Quite the contrary! I post mundane Questions of the Day, for crying out loud! 🙂
Any "hype" you may have felt, I believe, was generated was from what I would call a demand for something different in the Mac "syndication" scene. A new idea. I had this idea around July of last year, in fact, and it's taken until today to bring that feeling to fruition.

Everyone has moments of immaturity. Moments that are not their shining best. Readers of this blog know that I'm an opinionated, strong-willed guy who will stick to his guns. But readers also know me as someone who will plainly admit when he's wrong, who will blog the "less than sunny" moments in my life (as a personal vehicle for improvement, lame psycho-terminology forgiven if you will).
To one person in particular, I have only one thing to say: please realize that what you're doing reflects far more poorly on yourself than on me. I will not be drawn into commenting other than in this vague statement, nor will I concern myself with your behavior. You're clearly not someone capable of communicating at an adult level, and until you consider how what you're doing makes you appear to others, you will remain as such.
You were booted from the beta test. Get over it. 91000 leaks? You were testing beta software. Yeah, they got fixed. Heck, we had some far more serious than that during testing!

Today, I'm happy to announce that PulpFiction 1.0 is now available. The surprise? So is PulpFiction Lite, the freeweare sibling!
PulpFiction is available now for introductory pricing of $19. This special pricing lasts through May 21st, at which time the price will move to the standard price of $25. PulpFiction is available as a 15-day demo, after which you may purchase PulpFiction or switch to PulpFiction Lite.
I encourage everyone to visit the PulpFiction Resources page to download a few new themes, styles, and AppleScripts. Of course, your submissions are more than welcome: send us your stylesheets, people!
P.S. Do not file bug reports or feature requests here. We have official ways of doing both.
P.P.S. Beta testers: delete your database and your preferences file before running either PF or PFL. You may want to export your OPML file first, of course…

Question: Do you put your computer to sleep every night?
My Answer: I power off the screen (via Energy Saver), but the machine is on all night because I'm connected to AIM, because cron jobs run at 3am, and so on. I almost never sleep the machine - occasionally I will mid-day if my Internet connection goes out for awhile.

Here are the default feeds, folks. Of course, these will change in the next version, but I thought I'd let ya know. We'll be releasing PulpFiction in a few hours…
We stuck with 15 feeds because that's around 225 articles. That's enough to encourage people to set up some filters without inundating them with too much, we feel. The list is comprised of some of our personal favorites as well as some feeds we feel are useful. Zeldman's got a great site I read every day, for example, but would my mom?

What's this you ask?
Why, it's a surprise!! 😀 (and no, the filename won't give you any hints: pfs stands for PulpFiction Surprise, of all things).
P.S. The surprise is that PulpFiction is not shipping until June 15. Just kidding. 😉

Question: Have you watched the Berg video?
My Answer: No. I began to watch one that was billed as having a "long intro" and I quit the player after about ten seconds. It was obvious to me that what was about to happen was going to be very real, and not a movie stunt, and though I hunt and fish, I could not bear to watch the rest of the video. I know myself well enough to know that I shall never need to see it, and shall avoid watching should it appear before me on a TV or something.

If you were to provide the list of default subscriptions in PulpFiction, what feeds (the URLs for them) would be in your list? Provide the URLs - including those to your own blog if you've got one - and there's a good chance they might show up in the default subscriptions list.

Question: What do you think of MT3?
My Answer: I think people have missed out on the fact that they're relying on the honor system. I also think upgrading this blog was far more difficult than it should have been. Their "upgrade help" pages are rather lacking currently. Plus I think I have to figure out how to re-enable internal TrackBacks…
