New Dishwasher Installed (Again)

A few days ago our "new" dishwasher was installed. Today we had the proper model installed. 🙂

It turns out Lowe's sent the wrong one. It didn't have the "fancy" silverware tray, the adjustable-height top rack, the pot scrubber, the fancier styling (a handlebar front), and a few other features and whatnots.

When the refrigerator ((And why is it "fridge" but "refrigerator"? Where does the "d" come from?)) and range are installed I'm sure we'll be a lot more careful to check the model numbers. 😛

My Online Scorecard

Scorecard IconI mentioned a few days ago that Scorecard 1.2 was available. One of the new features is a web export that will automatically export your rounds to HTML. I export mine to my iDisk, which automatically synchronizes with my .Mac homepage: http://homepage.mac.com/iacas/Scorecard/.

Also, for a limited time, forum members at The Sand Trap can use the coupon code "SANDTRAP" to save 20% on Scorecard.

Our Windows version is coming along, and we hope to be in beta early next month.

TextExpander 2.0

With the release of TextExpander 2.0, I've made the switch from TypeIt4Me. I hung with Ti4M for its entire lifetime, but the developer is unresponsive at this time and TextExpander's feature set has surpassed TypeIt4Me's. They've made my previous comments about TypeIt4Me outdated.

Turns out TextExpander still can't do some of the things TypeIt4Me has done for quite awhile. Things like typing delete characters, moving the cursor, and so on. I use these features in TypeIt4Me just a little more frequently than I use the %selection% or %cursor% commands in TextExpander, so I've switched back to TypeIt4Me.

Online

I'd never heard the song "Online" before but someone pointed it out on The Sand Trap forum. It's pretty funny.

That's all I have to say about that. 😉

Shoulder

I dislocated my shoulder in college playing racketball. I should dig up the X-Rays - they're kind of bizarre, what with my right arm coming out of my sternum and all.

Heroes, Season Two

So what's the general consensus on Heroes, season two?

I said after last season's conclusion that I wasn't sure I was going to watch this season.

I don't care about the Guatemalan people, Sylar, "the company," or any of that stuff.

NetFlix in Erie?

Just recently, rather than sending my DVDs from NetFlix back to Pittsburgh, I've noticed that they instead go to PO Box 13001, Erie, PA 16514.

Cool.

WireTap Studio Released

WireTap Studio has been released. I competitively upgraded from Fission, which I never use, but will likely still use Audio Hijack Pro to continue to record the Golf Talk Podcasts. I've finally got a pretty good setup wherein I can record myself in one channel, the other hosts in another channel, and adjust the gain on each separately. It works quite nicely.

Until I figure out how to do that in WireTap Studio ((It may be quite easy. All I know at this point is that there's no tutorial for this specific purpose yet.)), I'll stick with AHP.

Oh, and I do almost all of my editing in SoundTrack Pro before using GarageBand just to add chapter markers and artwork and to produce the final AAC file. I'm not sure that'll change, either… Maybe?

Google AdSense into PayPal?

I tend to use my PayPal account as "petty cash." If I do a quickie job for someone that pays $100, I'll dump $50 of it to my bank account from PayPal and leave the rest there to pay for some software or some iTunes or other things like that.

I'd like to set up my AdSense account so that it dumps money into my PayPal account rather than to my bank account, but that doesn't seem possible. Is it? Have I overlooked something? Can it be done?

New Dishwasher Installed

The new dishwasher was installed today. It's snug - the opening is slightly undersized, so you've got to push a little to really seal the door. Honestly, it feels good and gets a better seal. Almost like high-end cars and the "snugness" their doors exhibit over, say, a Ford Escort.

The installer told me a few things, the veracity of which I intend to check out:

  • Powder detergents clean the best. Those little tabs are still releasing soap into the rinse cycle and liquid detergents have washed away long before the wash cycle is finished.
  • You should use rinse agents not so much for the dishes but for the dishwasher (particularly if you have stainless steel). "When you call up about a warranty question, the first thing they'll ask you is what rinse agent you use, and if you say you don't, they'll say 'sorry!'"
  • Try not to interrupt cycles. New dishwashers calibrate themselves every time they're run and will take longer to re-calibrate if interrupted. Always make sure the first cycle (dishes or not, doesn't matter) is not interrupted.

I also asked the guy about the self-tapping "hack" to add a water line to your refrigerator. He said in most cases that's actually better than cutting pipe and running more copper tubing.

P.S. And then we found out that the wrong dishwasher was installed. We've mistakenly got the $200 less model. Oy.

Not Quite That Simple

John Gruber writes about iPhone users who have unlocked their iPhones and feel "screwed" because they have a sense of entitlement.

John takes steps to illustrate the differences between a hardware modification and a software modification. His example of a software modification is replacing a kernel extension with another older version.

John then claims that if you do so, as with hacking the iPhone, you're on your own. "It's that simple," he says.

But it isn't that simple. Well, that or John's analogy kind of stinks.

If you goof up your Mac by deleting /var or replacing a kext or letting a virus delete important files, Apple still supports you. The support may only be of the "erase your hard drive and reinstall Mac OS X" variety, but that's still support.

That baseline level of support is all a lot of iPhone users are looking for: a process by which they can wipe their iPhone and reinstall the baseline OS to a pristine, virginal state.

Mizuno MP-67

<moment class="golf_geek">I'm pretty excited. I just ordered a set of Mizuno MP-67 irons with Project X shafts.</moment>

Woot!

Bought New Range, Dishwasher, Refrigerator

Our search has come to an end. Today Carey and I purchased a new gas range, refrigerator, and dishwasher.

We first went to Sears where the woman who was "helping" us did an incredibly poor job. Still, we found some items we liked and wrote them down. I took pictures with my iPhone so we could remember what they were.

We went to Home Depot next where we found a few more things we liked as well as some good pricing.

Finally, we went back to Lowe's, where we'd stopped yesterday, and ordered everything.

Super Bowl Rematch – Steelers Win Again

If nothing else, this game showed whiny Mike Holmgren that the only fluke in Super Bowl XL was how badly the Steelers actually played in that game.
