Question: Are ya Irish? Are you Irish today?
My Answer: No, and no. St. Patty's day is one of the holidays I care least for (except that it's six days before my birthday). Whoopty doo.

I'm attempting to send email via PHP using Mac OS X 10.3's built in mailserver (postfix). I've followed the directions here and received no errors in setting up postfix.
PHP generates no errors in sending the email. However, the email is never received. Does anyone have any ideas what steps I might take next? Most people having trouble sending email from PHP seem to be on Windows (i.e. very little help to me) according to Google's results…

Question: Have you ever knowingly used counterfeit money?
My Answer: No, but with an asterisk. I've got a bunch of $200 bills right now - they're not technically counterfeit because there's no such thing as a $200 bill. When I was younger, I got pretty good at silver plating pennies. They were easily passed off as dimes. Not exactly what I'd call a high-volume counterfeit process, eh?

A while ago I had two domains to get rid of. Now I have only one: techstra.net.
Want it? Make an offer. I'm not doing anything with it and I'd gladly find it a home. Offers need not be monetary, though please understand that I have to do some work to give it to you, so some form of compensation is necessary. Otherwise, I'd just hold onto it and expend absolutely no energy whatsoever at no cost whatsoever. 🙂

I'm having a design contest. It'll last until I say it's over. 🙂 (This means it'll last a few days - say until Friday or so?). Yes, that's short notice. The rules are very simple: deliver to me a mockup of a redesign for this site. An 800 x 600 TIFF or PSD would be fine.

I'm working on a little project (it doesn't even tie into anything right now - just a goofing around type of thing) involving OPML files. Yes, everyone and their brother has an OPML generator. This is mine (because my sister's brother didn't have one yet). It's currently located here (but sure to move eventually): http://freshsqueeze.com/products/opml/.
If you'd like to help, there's room for your ideas and coding - PHP and MySQL (this is unrelated to the PHP/MySQL thing I posted a few days ago).
Right now, I've got some categories. What do you think? What should be removed? Added? Renamed? Consolidated? Expanded? Leave your comments here or IM me. Please understand that things will change quickly in the first few hours and days.

Rock Star has been named (or will be named) MacAddict's "Shareware of the Month." To celebrate, we've dropped Rock Star's price to $9 (from $14)! We'll probably run this price for awhile, but we're not sure when we'll end the special - perhaps when the May 2004 issue of MacAddict hits store shelves in a few weeks?!
All we know is that everyone is playing Rock Star, yet the high scores list remains woefully short of names. Are y'all having that much trouble competing?! C'mon now!

Question: Do you believe in karma (or "what goes around comes around?"
My Answer: I believe more in "people will get what's coming to them." In other words, I believe that evil people eventually screw over enough people that it hurts them when they need it, and nice people catch a break every now and then. I don't believe in karma per se, but just in the fact that people are eventually exposed for who and what they are. Kick a lot of dogs and some day your boss might see you do it, and look for an excuse to fire you (and then find one and can your ass), for example.

Does the Mac community really make use of SIF files? Should I bother to create a SIF file for each of FSS' products? Does anyone other than "REALQualityMac" use them? It'd be nifty if VersionTracker and/or MacUpdate did, I suppose… but they don't.

Question: Do you have HBO?
My Answer: Yeah, but it's the only "premium" station I get. The Sopranos and a few other shows are worth watching… though I haven't cared much for the first two episodes this season.

Question: Have you ever sold anything you've created?
My Answer: In talking with a few friends today, I was surprised at how many of them have never created something and sold it. I've been selling things my whole life - my services, my goods, my body. The last one isn't a joke - you just have to know what I mean. I used to sell potholders around the neighborhood, and now I sell software I design and code (along with others).

I'm looking for someone to create a site for me in PHP/MySQL. Yes, this is exactly my area of expertise (well, skill anyway), but I've just not got the time. I'll pay $1000 (far too little, this much I know) to some aspiring (bored) college student if they'd like to list what I hope will become a fairly popular site on their résumé.
The quickie run-down of features (without being too specific):
- User accounts
- Users maintain a log of sorts (not a blog, no)
- Users can elect to publicly display their stuff, to keep it private, or to share it only with their friends.
- Statistics and a nice search form should be available (across your content or yours + your friends, primarily).
If anyone is interested, they should find the email link on the bottom right (currently) section of this site and send me an email. I'll do all of the design work - I just need a code grunt willing to work for a cool $1000 ($500 up front if I can trust 'em enough).
Not the most appealing job offer, but this job has some nice kickers: there's not a real deadline, most people have libraries of PHP/MySQL that they can use to quickly turn around a site like this (making $1000 a fairly reasonable value, in the end), and a great résumé bullet point. Interested? Email me.

Question: Which of the following three choices do you like most? Which do you like second?
A)
B)
C)
See my previous post as to why I'm asking…
My Answer: I don't know yet. That's partly why I'm asking!

I've named my new kayak "Killer Bee" (it's black and yellow, after all) and now I'm looking for a sticker of an angry looking bee. Does anyone know where I might find such a decal?
I found one by a guy on eBay but it's 40", has the word "skidoo" on it, and is for a snowmobile. I've emailed him and asked if he might be able to make it smaller, so we'll see what he has to say. Meanwhile, the search continues.
Update: Google returned Decal Zone and it looks like exactly what I need.

Question: Do you have and use a bathrobe? When?
My Answer: I have one. It's a free terrycloth one I got from guru.com about four years ago. I use it occasionally - when I feel like being slightly more pampered than putting on regular clothes (but not so pampered I might walk around nekkid). It's comfortable, though I wish it were a bit longer. But hey, it was free! I watched West Wing reruns in mine today.
