Eisner is an idiot.
"He created the computer, or at least Windows, or whatever he created, and did a good job," Eisner said to peals of laughter from analysts attending the company conference in Orlando, Florida. Eisner was addressing the collapse of talks between Disney and Pixar on extending their partnership, which has generated five smash hits including last year's "Finding Nemo." Since those talks failed late last month, Eisner and Jobs have traded barbs, each blaming the other. "You'd be killing me today if you read the deal we offered them," he told the analysts.
And yet the deal still wasn't good enough. Pixar had Disney by the balls, and Disney decided to let Pixar keep 'em.
Eisner is an idiot. Correction: Eisner is an idiot without any balls.

As I consider moving to ExpressionEngine, I see a race of sorts. The race is between EE's "MT Import" script and MovableType 3.0. The first to win the race will get my vote (at least initially). As I wait, I read articles like this one which push me further from MovableType as my "solution."
I've never liked Perl much, after all. Hell, have a look at my first post ever on this blog.

Question: If you could only listen to one band, group, or singer for the rest of your life, who would you choose?
My Answer: R.E.M. With the variety of their 20-year career and the intelligence of the lyrics, I'd never get tired of their vast collection of music.

Says one person on FTPeel's MacUpdate page:
One word: Perfect. Magic Mirrors are of the gods.
Several years ago I wrote to Cabel at Panic and said "hey, I have an idea." My idea was what is now a feature in my product: Magic Mirror in FTPeel. I said that an option to run Transmit (then Transit) in a "control-strip-like mode" (I was thinking of MacAST/AMP Lite) would work really well if I could just drag and drop files and they'd magically go to the correct server.
The dock replaced the control strip, and I wrote my own code to magically mirror files and folders. I'm glad others find MM as useful as I do (every day while updating the FSS site in particular!).

Freshly Squeezed Software has gone update crazy! Today we're releasing FTPeel 1.1.1, MailDrop 1.3.2, and Rock Star 1.0. A bit on each:
Rock Star 1.0 [info | download]
This game's gotten quite a bit of coverage the past few weeks here on NSLog();, so I won't belabor the point here. Most of you know what it does, and if you don't, well, click the links above. Remember, save $5 through Saturday - Rock Star is only $9!!!
FTPeel 1.1.1 [info | download]
FTPeel continues to support more servers, grows in its stability and speed, and is pretty darn close to being one of the best FTP clients on any platform. A mere point-point release, this was nearly FTPeel 1.2. We fixed, improved, or added over fifteen things, including support for Tex-Edit and Mac OS X's native Date & Time settings. This update is free to all registered users.
MailDrop 1.3.2 [info | download]
The biggest news in this version? Our first localized product. MailDrop now supports German-speaking customers. We've also fixed a few little crashes and improved the attachments handling routines. This update is free to all registered users.
What a day! Hurry and pick up your copy of Rock Star for > 35% off before Sunday, and as always, enjoy!
P.S. Feel free to leave comments at either MacUpdate or VersionTracker. Links go to Rock Star pages.

So, I'm not sure when it happened, but I noticed today that Safari now displays image sizes (i.e. "128 x 128 pixels") in the menu bar when you view an image.
Yay!
My best guess is that this happened in 1.2. I haven't seen any other mentions of this yet, and it's new to me.
P.S. On an unrelated note, why does safari chop off the word "Rock" in the tabs?
Very weird. The page titles properly include the word "Rock" in "Rock Star" but that word is chopped off in tabs.

Question: Who is your favorite Bond?
My Answer: I know I'll get crap for this one, but I'm going with Pierce Brosnan. Sean Connery was the first, and that's important, but I think Pierce plays it better than anyone. I've seen every movie, too, so it's not youth talking. 🙂

In John's preview of OmniWeb 5, he touches briefly on the OmniGroup's "support" for RSS:
OmniWeb 5 supports RSS, but not well. It auto-detects RSS feeds, which is great, but it doesn’t allow you to subscribe to them in standalone newsreaders… the right way to do this is to support standalone clients (probably via the feed:// URL protocol). To me, this is analogous to a web browser handling mailto:// URLs on its own, instead of passing them off to your email client.
I agree. A click on a feed:// URL should result in an externally defined application launching and taking the URL. What Mac OS X lacks, however, is a location for setting such a global setting: you've gotta launch Mail to change your default email client and you've gotta launch Safari to change your default Web browser. That's ridiculous (but also off-topic).

Where oh where is my Motorola v600?
If a phone was ever vaporware, this may be it. Motorola's site should say "Coming Soon… since 1997!" Peh.
The battery life on my venerable v60 is dwindling, as is the reception quality. I need a new Cingular phone pronto, and I want it with Bluetooth, a color screen, and some cool ringtone capabilities.

You know, my birthday is coming up. I've been quite happy with the audio system in my car. I just wish it had a line-in. I'm going with the faux-cassette-tape solution right now. I've avoided the FM tuners. The iPod almost never leaves my car except to come sync with the computer now and then.

Okay, so I've been looking at Atom support for this blog and whatnot, and there are a few things I can't figure out. I've looked at this page and a few others, and talked with Andy as well.
Atom has a range where you can say "give me articles 734 through 800" or "give me all articles from 892 onward" or whatnot. That sounds great, because if I write article 893, an RSS reader would only have to grab one article from my atom feed as opposed to the 15 I list in my RSS feeds.
But what about article 887, which I modified to add a postscript and to fix a typo? That'd be ignored, would it not?
Plus, with 1500 entries, is my Atom file going to be 1500 entries long? I'm not sure I understand how that works, on the client side or the server side.
I'm hoping that someone can provide a good answer to these questions.
P.S. I've implemented the default MT template here but all that's done is raise more questions. How is search (i.e. ?atom-recent=15 or ?atom-start-range=892) going to work? I dunno.

Gabe took the early lead, but I've pulled ahead of him. Witness my several close calls.
And Eric Blair, you doofus. You're in the freaking About Box and you were the first to buy a copy? Doofus! You missed the asterisk, I guess.

Rock Star is "kinda out." We're doing a soft release on this one for a few reasons: to iron out any remaining issues (we think that there are none, but we want to be sure), as well as to give the readers of this blog a bit more time to get Rock Star for only $9 before the price goes up to $14 on Sunday. Official release will be on Thursday.
To repeat: you can get Rock Star for $9 until Sunday. Get a copy early!* Don't forget the chance of winning $100, either.
The product page (please, if you have suggestions for the copy writing on this page, let us know!) is located at /products/rockstar/ (of course) and a direct link to what I'm calling 1.0fc2 is here (2.0 MB .dmg).
The $9 special runs through Saturday or Sunday (whenever I get around to changing the price). Have at it - the high scores boards are yours for the taking! Please leave any comments here on this entry so that we may fix any remaining small issues before the 1.0 release on Thursday, and as always, thanks!
* Legitimate beta testers and friends should IM me for their registration codes.
P.S. The FSS site has a new favicon. Clear those Safari caches of favicons, boys!

I am taking a serious look (via proxy) at ExpressionEngine today. This post is what's holding me back.
Mark -- we are actively developing an import script. We hope to have it finished in a couple weeks.
$200 for a professional blogging package? I'd pay it if migration took no more than a few hours and if it was fast. I would hope to adopt almost all of my MT templates and go from there. Two comments were made in my previous post about MT's speed (or complete lack thereof) about EE.
P.S. I'd have to update to PHP 4.1 from 4.0.6. It's been awhile since I've done this. I'm not looking forward to it. 🙂

Question: Who is the author of any book you're reading right now?
My Answer: Dan Brown (Digital Fortress). I've already read The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons.
