I'm not sure what BlogShares are, really, but here's mine. I used to play a fantasy sports thing where you bought stock in athletes, and their stock rose and fell, and you sold shares in Michael Jordan to pick up shares of Mark McGwire.

This might be fun, but, more investigation is necessary… 😐

The filesystem in Longhorn is something I plan to follow (and am, I suppose^*). Dominic Giampaolo has been at Apple long enough to have worked some ideas into Panther, perhaps, so maybe Apple has more up its sleeve to match this than we may think.

I've read enough of Scot Hacker's stuff to understand how much he liked the BeFS, and he made a case for things like the organization of MP3s with various metadata. A media-smart meta-data-heavy DB FS would be pretty handy for, well, me, a database developer (among other things).

A silly old joke I found somewhere:

A Mac user found a magic lamp with a Genie in it. The Genie said he wasn't as powerfull as other Genies and could only grant one wish. So the Mac User brought out a map of the Middle-East and asked the Genie if he could bring peace to the people there. The Genie said "Ah, you see, its hard to do that. Those people have been fighting for years. Its a religion thing, and about territory. Why as soon as they are teenagers, they go to war. Pick something else." So the Mac User said, "Ok, make the Mac OS a pre-emptive multitasking system, that is crash-proof and stable, has support for multiple processors, and still has 100% compatibility with all the current Mac OS apps." Danielle didn't show up yesterday. Go figure. This "friend" of mine from Cleveland is largely responsible for my recent bout of cynicism. She's done nothing but lie to me, use me, and otherwise abuse what was once a very soft heart for a sob story. I was lulled into being compassionate, and she took advantage.

Just as Josh gets me to watch Invader Zim they cancel the damn show. I'm not big into animé, and I don't typically care for cartoons, but the whopping two episodes of Invader Zim were amusing, funny, and witty.

Jeremy writes about Audible.com's customer service. I too cancelled my account his morning, prior to having read his entry, and faced the same bullcrap. In fact, I'd have cancelled in January but I never got around to calling them back.

What bullshit! They have no problem at all allowing me to increase my charges by using their web site. I can add subscriptions, purchase book recordings, and even MP3 players. But now I want to send them less money per month and they suddenly start caring about "a change in the financial status of an account."

It's pretty damn ridiculous - he's right. I had recommended Audible.com to some people, but until this policy changes I can't continue to do so. It's almost like online shopping cart software that requires a phone call to remove items.

Bullshit is right.

On my previous note about TrackBack spam, here's an article to which I wished to link for a few days now. It's not TrackBack spam, but it is comment spam - another function of blogging that I enjoy tremendously. The day all of this stuff is ruined is the day I'll stop. I think that eventuality is coming - I just hope that the technology changes to leave our current "wide open and waiting for abuse" system in the dust before we reach the "this is no longer worth it" point.

Tom Coates made me wonder how long TrackBacks will exist before they become useless and spammed, just like our inboxes. My own thoughts also include these: I like TrackBacks. They're one of the best things about blogging. The day they become even slightly more than the hassle they can be now (deleting multiple TrackBacks, timeouts, etc.) is the day I like blogging less. After all, the "network of thought" is being built by TrackBack, but it'll take far, far less time to tear it down.

It seems that Chris Pirillo has picked up a GameBoy Advance SP. I got mine last Thursday and have been playing some golf - Mario Golf from the old days - on it. José recommends CyberTiger so as soon as I can find that for $14.99 or so I'll pick up a copy. I've got some baseball, some hockey, Tetris, Tony Hawk, and one other game for my GameBoy. My neighbor kid has most of my old original GameBoy games.

Zelda should be arriving soon, and I pre-ordered and paid for it quite some time ago. It's pretty sad, but I'll wait for a guide to come out, because I like playing the game, but I don't want to have to think about it. I think about things all day, every day - when I'm sitting in front of my TV playing a game, I don't want to be thinking about much. I just want to run around and kill bad guys without wasting time solving puzzles. If I had to do that, these days, I'd never finish a full-length console game (Pikmin is pretty short, and I completed it in a few days, and I've barely gotten 15 minutes into Mario Sunshine).

P.S. Yes, the GBASP looks kinda like a mini Titanium or Aluminum PowerBook, and yes, this is yet another P.S.

Jeez, Adobe's gonna hear about this from somebody. Maybe somebody named Steve. "The Great Render Race" my ass. The problem, of course, being that this "race" has no endpoint, and Adobe should know that over the course of history, Macs have been both faster and slower than PCs many times each. Plus, Adobe's hardly capitalized on Mac OS X's new architecture, instead doing some things "the 9 way" leading to slower performance.

Are PCs faster right at this very moment? Yep. Do I work faster on a PC or a Mac (thus "are they faster for me?")? I use a Mac. So do a lot of Adobe customers. Adobe has more than people named "Steve" to answer to for this one.

P.S. The text says 1.0 GHz, the graphics say 1.25. Way to go Adobe.

P.P.S. Adobe - or at least the person putting this page together - is apparently really stupid. Since when is 54 seconds the same as 0.54 minutes? Just look at the graph. Fucking stupid.

Kasia is looking to start a blog list for Connecticut. I've emailed her (no repsonse yet) regarding my own plans (I think I can call them that) to start a site for Florida bloggers and suggested that perhaps she and I (and others) could create a national database and site. We'd filter on zip or area codes, or counties, and states of course. I'd be responsible for entering in Florida's information, she could enter in Connecticut's, and others could take up the slack for the other states until, in the end, we had a national "find people blogging in your area" site. I'd really like to do this, whether Kasia is involved or not (she's yet to reply to my email).

Given the above possibility, my "Florida Blogs" idea is on a bit of a hold. Is anyone else interested in helping me with this national thing? The obvious things are needed: hosting space (I could host a one-state list, but probably not all 50 states), some help with the code, perhaps some design(s), etc. IM me if you're interested at "iacas" on AIM, or email me.

P.S. "USA" for now simply because we have zip codes, area codes, etc. I'm sure an international site could be done later by someone with a bit more free time than I could ever hope to contribute…

Good thing I'm awake at 7am normally because at exactly 7:15am this morning, the "Police Benevolence Society" or somesuch silly group called me soliciting funds. I've been called by nearly every law enforcement, fire fighting, and volunteer organization remotely connected with either of those in the past few months, and frankly, it's getting annoying. They call at all times of the day and night and, much like telemarketers, simply won't take no, forcing me to be rude and hang up. I don't like to be rude.

I have about $4 billion in taxes to pay. No, I don't have $15 in exchange for a decal I wouldn't stick on my car anyway. No, I do not want to be on your calling list. But can they remove me at my request? Apparently not. How are these groups above the laws? The ones that say you've got to stop pestering someone who requests that you stop pestering them via phone. Oh wait, I can't exactly file a claim against them. The police would love that. 😛

I give to charity. I support the groups in which I believe, when I can, and it's in far greater amounts than $15. But today, at 7:15am, I really did not want to help my local policemen. I pay taxes, I'm a law-abiding citizen, etc. 7:15am? Refusing to remove me from your list? That's rude.

Nicholas Riley, Steven of Panic, and others are getting into some HipTop development. The SideKick as it is called by T-Mobile is easily one of my favorite gadgets even though I have little "real" use for it - I have a cell phone and a laptop, after all. However, when an SSH client comes out, wooo hooo, believe me when I say that its practicality will skyrocket. Absolutely skyrocket I say!

Will I upgrade to a color HipTop when they're available? I don't know. Will I even renew my current plan? I don't know. I sure as hell wish Cingular would offer some sort of coverage, because T-Mobile's coverage is spotty at best, and I really don't like having two providers. I'd rather consolidate under one. I have used about four of my HipTop's voice minutes - usually to demonstrate how well it works as a phone - and I'm "wasting" the other 1194 or whatever I get.

Either way, development of some cool apps never hurt a platform. I was going to write more about Danger's somewhat, uhhhh, restrictive licensing or terms for the SDK, but I'll let those go for now. Here's to hoping they're relaxed a little…
